World War II Exhibit and Conference Series Records
Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteThe World War II Exhibit and Conference Series, held in 1993, commemorated the 50th anniversary of the war. The events were sponsored by the University of Georgia Libraries, funded in part by the Georgia Humanities Council, and organized by Sheryl Vogt and John Edwards. The events included an exhibit of World War II memorabilia which travelled throughout the state and three conferences featuring wartime participants and scholars. The University of Georgia was named a World War II Commemorative Community by the Department of Defense in recognition of the events. Scope and ContentThe World War II Exhibit and Conference Series Records includes exhibit materials, research files, and correspondence. The exhibit materials include captions, slides of the exhibit, photographs used in the exhibit, and planning documents. The research files include copies of newspaper clippings from the time period and histories about the war. Also included are the grant proposal to the Georgia Humanities Council for the project, correspondence and meeting minutes related to overall event planning, the memoir of A.G. Steer, Jr., and envelopes with patriotic images produced during the war. Copies of the book "Battle for Berlin: End of the Third Reich" by Earl F. Ziemke, 1968 in six languages have been cataloged separately. Audiovisual materials are located in a separate collection.
