Collection DescriptionBiographical NoteEzekiel Roy Lambert, Jr. was born on June 18, 1925 in Madison, Georgia to Ezekiel Roy Lambert, Sr. and Lula McLendon Lambert. Lambert served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1942 through 1946 and later graduated from the University of Georgia with a business degree in 1947 and a law degree in 1950. During his time at the University of Georgia, Lambert was a member of the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity and the Phi Delta Theta Social Fraternity. After passing the bar exam in 1950, Lambert established a law firm in Madison, known today was Lambert, Reitman, and Abney, LLC. He married Christine Davis in 1954 and together they had three children: Leigh, Anne, and Zeke. Lambert was admitted to practice in the Georgia Supreme Court; the Georgia Court of Appeals; the United States Court of Appeals; Eleventh Circuit; and the United States District Courts. Lambert's father had been a member of the state legislature, and he saw an opportunity to run for a local senatorial seat for the 1955-1956 term, which he won. He served a second term in 1961 and 1962; and in 1963 he ran for a seat in the state House of Representatives. Lambert retained his seat in the state House of Representatives until his retirement from politics in 1985. During his time as a state representative, Lambert served as Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, Chairman of the House Rules and Industry committees, and also as Floor Leader for eight years promoting legislation favored by Governor George Busbee. Following his retirement from politics, Lambert went on to become the President of the Board of Directors of the Bank of Madison. Lambert passed away on February 22, 2008 at the age of 82 after a successful career as a farmer, banker, lawyer, and Georgia politician. Scope and ContentThe collection documents the life and career of E. Roy Lambert. Personal papers include correspondence from his family, namely letters written to his mother, Lula McLendon Lambert, from his father, E. Roy Lambert, Sr. This collection includes several photographs of Lambert over the years including photographs from his time as a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity at the University of Georgia, photographs taken of Lambert in the Georgia General Assembly, and from other campaign and political events.
