Collection DescriptionBiographyFrances Marguerite Russell, known as Margo or Dixie, was born April 11, 1896. She was the third child of Ina Dillard and Richard Brevard Russell Sr., born a little over a year before her brother, Senator Richard B. Russell Jr. She married James Harris Bowden on June 24, 1920. The Bowdens lived in Savannah, where Marguerite was a teacher. The couple had four children: Marguerite Russell Jr., Jane Mayo, James Harris Jr., and Richard Russell (Senator Russell's cousin). Scope and ContentThis collection contains photographs of the Bowden family at the launch of the USS Savannah in 1937, and newspapers featuring stories about Russell Bowden's brother, Senator Richard B.
