The collection consists of papers of Joseph E. Brown from 1823-1895 and includes correspondence, letter books, tax returns,
speeches, and diaries. It contains official correspondence and letterbooks (1858-1863) as Governor of Georgia which are particularly
strong in information regarding Georgia's secession and involvement in the Civil War and includes such correspondents as Howell
Cobb, Alexander H. Stephens, and other Confederate government officials. Also included are an 1864 speech of Howell Cobb,
a speech (1868) made by Brown regarding Reconstruction politics, and a manuscript copy (1864) of Brown's pamphlet concerning
Benjamin H. Hill's notes on Reconstruction. The collection also contains diaries of Franklin P. Brown (1868), Joseph Mackey
Brown (1867, 1874, 1876), and Elijah A. Brown (1882, Jan. only).
Much of this collection is transcribed with full transcripts in boxes 7-10.

refer to a case heard before the state court of appeals after Smith's death.

and major investors: John A. Phillips, J. H. Harris, Ida Harris, Mrs. M. E. Phillips; their creditors, partners, and many
legal transactions. It proves an interesting perspective on the founding of Union City by land speculators complete with ad
campaign promotions and possibly exploitations. The collection is comprised of correspondence, affidavits, depositions, land
grant copies, land surveys, bonds, deeds, abstracts of titles, mortgages, court summons, petitions, settlements, judgements,
FiFa's, promissory notes, accounts, receipts, stock certificates, news clippings, business cards, a will and a broadside.
The greatest concentration of material is within the 1870-1911 period.

The collection consists of an illuminated 16th century parchment Spanish manuscript of the Gradual of the Roman Catholic liturgy.
The manuscript is richly illuminated throughout the text with particular emphasis on the first capital letter which is executed
in gold and pastel colors. Many of the remaining capital letters of the manuscript are of a red and blue Moorish design while
the verse letters are black with yellow trim. A portion of the Kyriale and Sanctorale sections are palimpsest, that is erased
and reused, with some of the old notation still visible. The manuscript is bound in tooled leather fastened to wooden boards
with ornamental brass plates and knobs on back and front covers.

The collection consists of accounts and materials related to the threat of a law suits by Harry Tate against his brother,
William S. Hutchison. The matter was settled by a mutual release dated December 9, 1913. Most of the letters are to Hutchison,
either from Tate or his legal representative, asking for the release to Tate of all "vouchers, accounts, statements, documents
and papers," as well as an insurance policy of Tate's which Hutchison held. The accounts show the receipts and sources of
income on the part of Harry Tate, including both an Australian tour and an American tour.
