The collection consists of an order, dated November 1864 [per official records], signed by Lt. Col. Edwin Thomas Jones of the Georgia State Militia addressed to the people of Lee County, Georgia stating that all men of the county are liable to militia duty under the call of Governor Joseph E. Brown and should join a company and be ready to march by next Sunday or Monday or be arrested. This call was to provide troops during the Atlanta Campaign, 1864.

The collection consists of four pages from the family record section of the Jordan family bible. These pages were removed from the bible, which was left by Mrs. Ilah Dunlap Jordan Little on instructions from the director of the Libraries, Mr. W. P. Kellam. The bible, itself, being in extremely poor condition, was not retained. These pages contain birth, death, and marriage records of the Jordan family. These were the only records in the bible.

The collection consists of correspondence from Myron G. Love as a soldier with the 38th Illinois Infantry Regiment during the Civil War, to his sister, Rachel Love of Willow Springs, Greene County, Ohio, from January 1861 - September 1862. Love describes, in detail, his regiment's marches through Missouri and Arkansas including information on the local geography; plants, flowers, and trees; plantations and farms; buildings; farming practices; types of crops; local reaction to Union troops; foraging for food, hunting, and fishing; Confederate prisoners; difficulty of moving wagons in the rain; the weather; and his health. One letter, dated April 16th, begins "Dear Friend," and is signed "John." Also included are transcriptions of the letters along with genealogical information.

The collection consists of six letters, five written by O. W. Lowe as a Confederate soldier from 1860-1865. Lowe describes the regiment's march to Richmond, fighting in Pennsylvania, men killed, his scout duties, a fishing detail in Port Royal, and his recruiting duties in Virginia during 1864. Lowe's letter to his mother dated October 1, 1865, describes his time spent in prison, lack of food, his health, life after the war, how freed men are coping with life, and the need to forget the past war. One letter dated March 23, 1860 begins "Dear Cousin," and is signed "I remain your friend Mary C. Allison Miss M. Holland."

The collection consists of papers of Wilson Lumpkin from 1828-1869. The papers consist mainly of personal correspondence (1828-1859) from Lumpkin to his wife, Annis Hopkins Lumpkin, and children written from Washington, D.C. while he was serving as a U.S. Representative and Senator and during his involvement with the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The collection also includes a "memorandum" notebook (1838-1869) in which Lumpkin recorded a few diary entries, genealogical notes, recollections of his childhood and political career, and lists of slave births. The collection included a broadside, Letter from Ex-Governor Lumpkin (BRO 1860 L4), which has been added to the broadside collection.

The collection consists of a group photograph of the five members of the National Transportation Committee at its organization meeting in New York City in October, 1932. The members were Bernard M. Baruch, Clark Howell, Alfred E. Smith, Alexander Legge, and Calvin Coolidge. The first four members sent autographed letters to Dr. McHatton; Henry E. Ross, Secretary, sent a letter with Coolidge's autograph enclosed. There is also a letter from Dr. Harvey Cushing, Yale University School of Medicine, to Dr. McHatton, July 18, 1936.

It is signed by Abner Atkison, executors Thomas Lundy and Starling Evans, and witnessed by George Collins, Spencer Watts, and Aquillia Evans.
