The collection consists of two items: the Grisham family Bible; and a court document. The Bible contains records of John Grisham,
1715-1814, and continues through several generations, including Joseph Grisham, 1789-1857, who married Mary L. Steele, and
had daughter Elizabeth, who married Joseph Emerson Brown. The mortgage deed is between Joseph S. Dial and Joseph E. Brown,
of Cherokee County, Georgia, for three lots of land and 10 "negroes" ("Harriet about 44 years old, also...named Maria about
twenty two years old and her two children Emila, a girl four years old, and James Al...boy about two years old. Also a negro
woman name Aggy about twenty years old and her child a boy named S...about three years old, also a boy named Toby about fifteen
years old, and Nathan, a boy about twelve years old...a boy about nine years old and..."

The collection consists of an ledger book that is also used as a scrapbook. The first several pages contain newspaper clippings
and advertisements. The remaining pages account for items purchased and names of purchasers at a store in Elberton, Georgia,
in 1837; names and hometowns of people who stayed at the Oxford Hotel from 1849-1851, and provisions brought for the hotel
from 1851-1854; and operational expenditures of the Hunter House in Covington, Georgia, from 1853-1856. The ledger possibly
belonged to John A. H. Harper.

The collection consists of letters, photographs, biographical information, writings, friendship album (Mary McWhorter), account
book (James Hamilton McWhorter, Jr.), and information on family reunions and the family cemetery in Oglethorpe County. Most
of the letters were written by the McWhorter brothers to their parents and sisters during the Civil War. Their company moved
through many Virginia locations, such as Chancellorsville, Orange Court House, Spotsylvania Court House, Madison Run Station,
and Petersburg, where Robert McWhorter was killed in battle on June 20, 1864. There are also several pre-war letters from
James McWhorter while he was a student at the University of Georgia. A set of typescripts is included for many of the letters
dated 1859-1865. The later correspondence deals mainly with genealogy research done by McWhorter Milner, son of Mary McWhorter
Milner. In addition to photographs of the family and the family cemetery, there are three of Grady Memorial Hospital staff
in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. W. Hal Moncrief, a friend of McWhorter Milner, was a doctor at the hospital and is in one of the
photographs.
