The collection consists of a treaty concluded at Hopewell on the Kiowee River, between Benjamin Hawkins, Andrew Pickens, Joseph
Martin, and Lachlan McIntosh, Commissioners Plenipotentiary of the United States, and the headmen and warriors of the Cherokee
Indians on November 28, 1785. The treaty provided for westward expansion as it authorized the cession of much of the lands
along the French Broad and Holston Rivers to the United States.

The collection consists of one Greek manuscript, probably papyrus, origin unknown, from the early 2nd century A. D. It measures
6.2 X 7 cm with a 2 cm margin at the lefthand side. It is a small fragment of a private letter written in a fair upright
script to be compared with W. Schubart, Tabula 22. Only the beginning of seven lines is preserved and the document is difficult
to read. "A son Herm[ ]" or "a son of Herm[ ]" is mentioned in 1.2. The word "grapes" occurs in 1.3.

The collection consists of 15 Babylonian clay tablets; eight of these have been authenticated by Edgar J. Banks and deciphered
enough to approximate their subject matter. They are: 1.) Found at Warka, a contract tablet bearing the name of Nergalsharezer
(Neriglissar), King of Babylon, 562 B.C., and dated in the second year of his reign, or in 560 B.C.; 2.) Found at Warka, a
contract tablet bearing the name of Nabonidus, the last Semitic king of Babylon, 556-538 B.C., and the father of the Biblical
Belshazzar, dated in the seventh year of his reign, 549 B.C.; 3.) Found at Warka, a contract tablet bearing the name of Cyrus,
the first Persian king of Babylon, 538-529 B.C., the tablet is dated in the seventh year of his reign, 531 B.C.; 4.) Found
at Warka, a contract tablet bearing the name of Cambyses, son of Cyrus, King of Babylon, 529-522 B.C., and dated in the second
year of his reign, 527 B.C.; 5.) From Drehem, the tablet was first written and then sealed with a cylindrical seal to prevent
any alteration in the writing; 6.) From Drehem, a list of objects presented to the temple; 7.) From Drehem, it is a part of
the temple records of that city and related to objects presented to the temple for sacrificial purposes, it comes from one
of the early kings of the Ur dynasty; 8.) From the temple at Johka, a part of the temple records, it is dated on the bottom
edge. The other tablets are as of now undeciphered, but still form an interesting record of a vanished culture.

The collection consists of mining reports, drafts, maps, and notes of the firm Adelberg & Raymond (New York, N.Y.) for Georgia
mines from 1844-1867. Mines and properties include Adelberg Gold Company (Cobb County, Ga.); Brolley mine (Cherokee County,
Ga.); Dr. B. Hamilton property (Cobb County, Ga.); Lewis property (White County, Ga.); and the Judge Strong mine (Cobb County,
Ga.). Reports contains sections describing the mines' location, the area's terrain, climate, and geology; an analysis of the
gold vein; a mining plan; and an economic view often containing information on the cost of labor, materials, and proposed
output. The report for the Lewis mine also includes a history of Georgia mining. Several of the drafts are signed by Dr. Hermann
Credner of Ackworth (Cobb County, Ga.).

The collection also includes correspondence from Brig. Gen. William M. Gardner to William Montgomery Rhind; and a letter from
Alfred M. Hobby in San Antonio, Texas, which discusses life in the southwest.
