The collection consists of 368 booklets dealing with newspaper clippings, court minutes, and minutes of various county departments. Some are typescripts, carbon copies of the typescripts, and handwritten copies of the original county records. These were compiled by the Historical Records Survey from 1938-1941, and were deposited in the Atlanta office. When the WPA office closed, the records were dispersed to various institutions in Georgia. A calendar compiled in 1971 by Susan Tate accompanies the collection.

The collection consists of correspondence of the Champion family from 1816-1869. The bulk of the collection contains letters written by Aaron Champion of Savannah (Georgia) or Moses Champion of Monticello (Georgia) to Dr. Reuben Champion, Jr. of West Springfield (Massachusetts). The Champions comment on the social, political, and economic situations occurring in Georgia during. The collection also contains an 1816 letter from H. Stebbins of Savannah to Dr. Reuben Champion, Jr. pertaining to Savannah, the people, commerce, and slavery; three letters from Henry Champion of Montgomery (Alabama) to Dr. Champion discussing the proposed statehood of what was then the western territory; and a series of letters written from Savannah during the Civil War discussing the formation of the Confederacy, the progress of the war, and its effect upon the civilian population.

The collection consists of papers of the Rhind / Stokes from 1788-1919. The papers include personal and business correspondence and financial records of James Rhind (1848-1854), Colden Rhind (1884-1911), James Rhind Stokes and Sarah Gardner Stokes (1884-1949), and J.R. Stokes (1906-1917). Bound volumes contain business accounts (1788-1811) from several merchants in Augusta (Ga.); a cotton invoice book (1843-1848) and letter books (1843-1852) for James Rhind ? and several ledgers relating to Colden Rhind's brokerage businesses (ca. 1886-1909). Of particular interest are records of H.T. Massingale, a Quartermaster for the Confederate Army from 1861-1864. These records include requisitions and pay vouchers from Tennessee (1861-1862) and Atlanta (1862-1864) and Augusta (1864) Georgia. Also includes burial lists of Confederate soldiers and Federal prisoners from various hospitals mainly in the Atlanta area dated December 31, 1863.
