The collection consists of one letter: dated Philadelphia, August 21, 1780, addressed to "George Gilmore, Senior Surgeon, Virginia...," signed "W. Shippen," regarding Shippen's acquittal. Gilmore writes: "I am at last released after a long and malevolent persecution of that most miserable of all animals, Dr. Morgan, assisted by almost as miserable a creature, Rush, & am acquitted of every charge by a court martial, & the acquittal is confirmed by Congress..." Text has been lost due to damage in the top right quarter of the manuscript.

The collection consists of one brief of title for 213,505 acres of "Yellow Pine Timberland in Bulloch County, Georgia, between the Canouchee and Ogeechee rivers." The brief of title contains land transactions from 1793-1856 between Charles Ryan, John Hall, Robert Morris, John Nicholson, Trustees of the North American Land Company, Heirs of John Barclay, James Dundas, Benjamin Kugler, Samuel Slater, George Mackay, and Eben S. Stephenson. Also included is a detailed hand-drawn plot of the acreage, transcripts of indentures, and accounts of each individual tract.

A two-page autograph letter signed by John Knox, dated "Augusta, Ga. December 11th 1843," addressed to his brother James N. Knox of the Chester District, South Carolina. The letter is a personal letter discussing family matters including the death of their mother, John's lack of money, and James' difficulties with the family's land. Although John does not directly give his reasons for being in Augusta, he was a student at the time, probably at the Medical College of Georgia.

A letter dated "Savannah 3d January 1841" addressed to C. Durand, a merchant of New York and New Orleans. Generally social in tone and thanking Durand for his kindnesses during a stay in Baltimore, Porter also discourses on the scene in Savannah and particularly the difficulties with the cotton crop: "The cotton crop (Sea Island and upland in Georgia) will not exceed more than a half crop." The letter is two pages long entirely in Porter's bold hand.
