The collection consists of one letter dated August 4, 1839, to Alexander H. Stephens in Crawfordville, Georgia. In the letter,
Linton relates the details of his travels by stage to Athens to attend the University of Georgia. Once in Athens he discusses
meeting Dr. Alonzo Church and Joseph and Lewis LeConte, taking his college entrance examination, joining Phi Kappa Literary
Society, and finding living accommodations and a roommate. The collection also includes one undated photograph of Alexander
H. Stephens as a young man.

1819) describing Ware's trip to Staten Island (N.Y.), quarantine, arrival in Philadelphia (Pa.), and illness; a speech (1845)
on patriotism and U.S. history celebrating the 4th of July; and printed material.

The collection consists of personal and official papers of diplomat William Tapley Bennett from 1941 to 1980. The papers mainly
document Bennett's diplomatic and ambassadorial service with the United States Department of State, the United Nations Security
Council (1971-1977), and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization's North Atlantic Council (1977-1983). Of particular note,
are the materials from Bennett's assignment as Ambassador to the Dominican Republic during the 1965 Dominican Crisis. Other
assignments documented include Austria, Portugal, and Maxwell Air Force Base. The papers also document his military service,
personal life, and involvement in international diplomatic organizations. Included are correspondence, speeches, clippings,

This collection documents Mary Frances Early, the first African American to graduate from the University of Georgia. Ms. Early's
transcripts, grades, financial aid documents, photographs, diaries, and notebooks illustrate her student life. After graduating
from the University of Georgia in 1962, with her master's in music education, she worked for the Atlanta Public Schools and
was involved in local, state and national educational organizations. Ms. Early's involvement with organizations such as Georgia
Music Educators Association, National Endowment for the Arts, and Music Educators National Conference is illustrated by correspondence,
photographs, and speeches. Also included are materials regarding her education at Clark Atlanta University (1957) and honors
received from the University of Georgia Alumni Association and College of Education. The collection contains correspondence,
photographs, programs and event files, official documents from the University of Georgia, diaries, and notebooks.

There are also administrative and business records that show, among other things, his interactions with UGA Administrators
and the Main Library on campus. Other materials highlight his work as an English professor and as an organizer of the Cultural
Olympiad held in conjunction with the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. These records emphasize his efforts with the Cultural Olympiad's
Winterland and Nobel Laureate projects.

This collection mostly consists of University of Georgia academic related material dating from the 19th century through 1945
but does hold a few records dating to 1978. Some academic items include recordbooks (grade reports and class records), graduation
information, correspondence, application and transferral forms along with material related to various student organizations.
Among the artifacts are such things as a time capsule dating from 1872.
Some items of particular interest are two tuition books dating from 1821 to 1826 and 1838 to 1850. There also are 1932-1938
records from the Coordinate College and a large number of student reports from 1905 through 1916 (grades, correspondence,
etc.) relating to Charles Mercer Snelling's time as a professor and dean at the University.
