The collection consists of the transcript of a taped interview with retired Brigadier General William W. Buchanan, conducted
by Mr. Benis M. Frank, for the Marine Corps Oral History Program (1969). The interview concerns Buchanan's career in the Marine
Corps, including his World War II experiences at Tarawa, Saipan, Okinawa, and Iwo Jima. Also included is a typewritten letter
(dated February 22, 1971) from F.C. Caldwell, explaining the transcript and the Oral History Program established by the United
States Marine Corps.

The collection consists of correspondence of Loran Alonzo Dowling, a Marine during World War I, to his mother, Vannit Dowling.
The letters were written from the Marine training camp at Paris Island (S.C.), then from France, Belgium, Luxemburg, and Germany
during his military service. The letters mainly discuss family and friends in Georgia, but also contain information on Dowling's
duties as a runner carrying messages between units, trench warfare, being gassed, the people's reactions to American soldiers,
and the battle of Saint-Mihiel (France) in 1918.
