The collection consists of clippings from Knox's personal scrapbook, affidavits, letters, manuscript speeches, military documents, and other material. The speeches were likely written during the time he was a teacher in Mississippi, prior to the Civil War. Of particular interest are also two speeches he gave at the Knox Institute (a Freedmen's school named after him) in Athens, Georgia. Also included are materials relating to Knox's family, including letters (many addressed to Clarkston, Michigan), an account book, and photographs.

Talmadge Collection, Subgroup C, Series III: Civil Rights files document aspects of the federal government's expansion over state authority in this area, and Talmadge's efforts against such infringement. Included is constituent correspondence, mainly for the year 1968, dealing with the assassinations of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Robert Kennedy, social unrest, freedom marches, and the Poor People's Campaign. Legislative files contain correspondence, printed materials, and legal opinions pertaining to the Civil Rights Act of 1957, 1964, and 1966, the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and busing.

From 1957 until 1971, the Administration and Press offices shared the same secretary and files. After 1971, the two offices were separated, as were their filing systems. Therefore some of the subseries are identical to those in the Press Office files series. This series consists of those activities that are not directly associated with "legislating" or providing constituent services but are nevertheless part of the routine of every officeholder. Also included are visitor cards, guest books, the Senator's appointment books, telephone records, and White House tour requests. Topics include the desegregation of the University of Mississippi in 1962; the civil action suit between Ivan Allen, Jr., Mayor of Atlanta, and Rev. Robert Hunter, leader of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in 1967; Vietnam; reaction to the Gulf of Tonkin and Mansfield Resolutions in 1967; the Pueblo incident; and the Whitten Amendment of 1969 which proposed the freedom of choice as an acceptable desegregation plan.

The collection consists of the papers of Mack F. Mattingly from 1956 to 2023, including correspondence, clippings, press releases, speeches, printed materials, photographs, audiotapes, and videotapes. The press files include mainly speeches, press releases, and clippings. Records relating to office administration contain telelphone logs, appointment books, schedule books, guest books, accepted and declined invitations files, files of office staff, and general files that consist of weekly and monthly reports from regional representatives in Georgia. The legislative files include subject files pertaining to legislation being considered by Congress, bill files, Mattingly's voting records from 1981 through 1987, and his personal legislative files, which contain legislative topics of particular interest to the Senator. These materials document Mattingly's work on legislation relating to the line-item veto, anti-drug measures, tax policy, trade policy, agriculture policy, and the conservative economic and federal defense budget policy. Of particular interest are records relating to Mattingly's work as chair of the Subcommittee on Military Construction Appropriations, which included aid to the "Contras" in Nicaragua, his tenure on the Ethics Committee while it investigated the ABSCAM bribery scandal, and legislation that reduced expenditures on consultants and studies by the government. The records of the constituent services staff consist primarily of issue correspondence containing information on constituents' views and questions about current events or public issues. The scrapbooks (1979-1985) were compiled by the Senator's family and staff which record highlights of the Senator's political career and campaigns. Also included are journals and letters written by Carolyn Mattingly.

Series IV. Governor of Georgia, Subseries E. The collection consists of papers of Lillian Smith from circa 1920-1980. Part of the collection contains records relating to her involvement with the Laurel Falls Camp for Girls including correspondence, applications for admission, printed material, and scrapbooks. The collection also has correspondence, photographs, and papers of her partner, Paula Snelling; her sister, Esther Smith; and the Barnett family. The collection consists of the papers of Walter B. Hill and the Hill family from 1818-1941. The papers include correspondence, legal documents from Hill's law practice, notebooks containing Hill's law lectures or class notes, an 1878 diary of Hill's daily activities, photographs, scrapbooks of clippings documenting Hill's career, speeches, and writings of Hill, letterbooks, and printed material pertaining to temperance activities in Georgia and the United States. The correspondence is mostly between family members discussing personal business but a few pertain to Hill's professional career and discuss education in Georgia, politics, or articles written by Hill. Correspondents include Hill's parents Mary Clay Birch Hill and Barnard Hill, his brother Herbert C. Hill, his wife Sallie Parna Barker (Hill), and children Parna B. Hill, Mary Minot (Brown), and Roger M. Hill. The letterbooks (1888-1893 and 1898-1899) mainly pertain to Hill's law practice with the firms of Hill & Harris (Macon, Ga.) or Hill, Harris and Birch (Macon, Ga.), but also include information on Hill's activities with the Georgia Bar Association and temperance societies. After Hill's death in 1905, the correspondence is between Sallie B. Hill, Parna B. Hill, Mary M. Brown, and Walter B. Hill. Much of the materials pertain to Sallie's work with farmer's wives as part of the University of Georgia's extension service, Parna's activities with canning and poultry clubs through the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, and both women's service with the League of Women Voters of Georgia.

The collection consists of papers of the Rev. Charles Colcock Jones family of Liberty County, Georgia from ca. 1749-1909. The early letters (1850-1861) are between Charles Colcock Jones and Mary Jones in Liberty County, Georgia and their son, Charles Jr., while at school in Princeton and Harvard and later in Savannah (Ga.) where he set up his law practice. The letters discuss social and family life, plantation life, politics and government, religious philosophies, and events leading up to the Civil War. From 1861-1865, Charles Jr.'s letters chronicle his involvement as an officer in the Chatham Artillery stationed along the Georgia coast near Savannah, then Charleston and James Island (S.C.), and Jacksonville (Fla.). After the war, the personal correspondence is mainly between Charles Jr., his mother Mary Jones, his wife Eva Eve Jones, and his brother Joseph Jones. There is also a smattering of correspondence regarding his law practice. The collection also contains two volumes of letters Eva Eve Jones wrote to family describing her travels through Europe in 1879, manuscripts of Charles Jr.'s writings on Georgia history, Charles Jr.'s speeches including an 1861 speech to the Chatham Artillery, and addresses (1886-1892) he gave before the Confederate Survivors Association. Also included is a copy of the original manuscript for William Bartram's book Observations on the Creek and Cherokee Indians attributed to Ephraim G. Sqier (1821-1888). The manuscript contains tracings of Bartram's drawing of prehistoric mounds, Creek towns, and Cherokee and Creek structures not found in the published work.
