with debt collection for individual agencies and mercantile businesses in Georgia; New York City; Charleston, South Carolina;
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Albany, Georgia. Correspondence from the Mercantile Agency of Charleston and Comstock & Brother,
New York City. Personal correspondence discusses family concerns, land transactions, social life of the period, and bills
pertaining to groceries and sewing. Major correspondents include William Ephraim Smith, Jr.; Lou. S. Smith; Mary Smith; Carrie
Smith; Samuel W. Smith and Sallie Williams. Collection also contains one letter, unsigned, describing a meeting with President
Franklin Pierce.
