This collection contains the papers of Colonel Richard Dennis and his family. The majority of the collection is comprised of correspondence, but it also includes genealogical information, legal and land documents, and ephemera. Much of the correspondence involves Dennis' business and the settlement of his estate and property in Georgia following his death in 1845. Additional subjects covered include Savannah's economy during the War of 1812, gold mining in Georgia, and the sale of people he enslaved.

Sanders (7 slaves, 745 acres of land, $750 in sundry); Thomas P. Janes (8 slaves, furniture, 520 acres of land); Nancy W. McWhorter (7 slaves, furniture and a house); Mary E. Janes (11 slaves, a cash settlement of $6,000); and grandchildren Robert McWhorter (25 shares Georgia RR and Banking stock), all remaining property is to be equally divided between the children Cornelia Sanders, Thomas Janes, Mary Janes, Felix Janes, Susan Janes and Cordelia Janes.

The collection consists of John Ray's day book, docket book, and plantation book. The day book records debts collected from 1831-1844, and contains some notes concerning land; and the docket book contains notes of proceedings and filings in court cases in Coweta County, Georgia Superior Court from 1843-1865. The plantation book records names of people who were enslaved, and account of their clothes, rations, and blankets; notes on legal decisions; and recipes for various illnesses, including heart disease, measles, rheumatism, pneumonia, scarlet fever, and asthma. The collection also includes handwritten papers on heart disease; promissory notes, deeds and indentures for land in Newnan, Coweta County, Georgia, a bill of sales for two "Negroes" (named "Roland, 2 years old, and Randal, about 7 years old"); tax records; and records of White Oak Plantation (Coweta County, Ga.) and an unidentified plantation. The plantation records record how much cotton was sold (cotton made at White Oak Plantation).

The collection consists of papers of the George Wymberley Jones De Renne family of Savannah, Georgia from 1732-1939. The materials document the activities of the De Renne family and contain information on land transactions in Georgia; estate or plantation management, particularly Wormsloe Plantation (Savannah, Ga.) and Popular Grove; the Buena Ventura Stock Company and Buena Ventura Ranch (1883-1884) in Tom Green County (Tex.); book and wine purchases for Wormsloe; and the De Rennes' involvement in the Georgia Historical Society and the Georgia Bicentennial (1933). The collection also contains correspondence and other materials pertaining to the George W. Smith family, the Campbell and Stewart families, and accounts and correspondence (1867-1880) with Thomas A. Biddle & Company (Philadelphia, Pa.). The collection consists of personal and business papers of the Cobb, Erwin, and Lamar families from 1796-1929. Early records deal mainly with the Zachariah Lamar family and include deeds, bonds, land grants, receipts, slave bills of sale, and correspondence. The period 1811-1928 covers the Lamar, Cobb, and Erwin families and contains correspondence, both business and personal; bills; receipts; invitations; legal papers; telegrams; tax notices; postcards; case books; letterbooks; scrapbooks; account books; photographs; and genealogical and biographical information pertaining to the Cobb, Erwin, and Lamar families. Also includes information on the law practice and legal firms of the Cobb and Erwin families. Of particular interest are Howell Cobb's order books for the 16th Georgia Infantry Regiment (Cobb's Brigade). The collection consists of the papers of William Harden and the Harden family of Savannah, Georgia from 1826-1936. The papers include correspondence, legal documents, genealogical materials, clippings, as well as speeches and writings of William Harden. The bulk of the collection (1844-1936) consists of correspondence to William Harden or Judge Edward J. Harden. Letters to William Harden pertain to Georgia history and family genealogy as well as letters documenting Harden's duties as Secretary of the Sons of the Revolution (Savannah, Ga.) and as Librarian for the Georgia Historical Society (Savannah, Ga.). Correspondence to Judge Edward Jenkins Harden discusses Georgia politics and law cases. Notable correspondents include Joseph Henry Lumpkin, Charles Colcock Jones, Jr., and Caroline Miller. Also includes correspondence of other family members including John Maxwell Harden, Edward T. Harden, and Ann Harden Morse. Of particular interest, are a series of letters (1826-1857, with gaps) from George Michael Troup to Dr. W.C. Daniels of Savannah (Ga.). Writing from Milledgeville (Ga.) and Washington (D.C.), Troup's letters discuss Georgia and U.S. politics, state rights, Georgia land surveys, public education, tariffs, the nullification issue, and Indian affairs.

Jones; his children John Dunwoody Jones, Mary Cornelia Jones, Joseph H. Jones, and John C. Jones; his brothers and sisters Reverend Charles C. Jones, Mary Jones, J.N. Jones, and Sallie A. Dunwoody and her husband William J. Dunwoody. Records relating directly to John Jones include sermons (1830-1883), various diaries and financial ledgers, legal documents, and materials relating to the Presbyterian Church. The collection contains some material relating to various Jones family plantations in Georgia including Hopestill and Bonaventure. The collection consists of papers of the David Crenshaw Barrow Sr. family of Lexington, Oglethorpe County, Georgia from 1817-1915. The papers include mainly correspondence, financial records, and diaries. The earliest records consist mostly of receipts and accounts of David Crenshaw Barrow, Sr. and Middleton Pope. The bulk of the correspondence (1850-1883) is between Barrow and his children David Crenshaw Barrow, Jr.; Ella Patience Barrow (Spalding); James Barrow; Lucy M. Barrow (Cobb); Middleton Pope Barrow; and Thomas A. Barrow. Some of James Barrow's correspondence was written while a cadet at West Point and then later during the Civil War serving first in Cobb's Legion in Virginia and later in the 64th Georgia Infantry Regiment in Florida. There is also an interesting set of correspondence (ca. 1850-1868) to Barrow from overseers at his plantations in Oglethorpe and Decatur Counties, Georgia; letters relating to his investment in a Florida salt works during the Civil War; and letters from John H. Lumpkin and William McKinley regarding the secession of Georgia. The collection also includes diaries (1851-1852, 1856-1858, 1876, 1879) of David Crenshaw Barrow, Sr. mostly detailing farm and family life and diaries (1868, 1875) of Clara E. Barrow discussing school and social activities.

The collection consists of the papers of the Baber, Blackshear, and Baber-Blackshear families from 1796-1939 and includes correspondence, journals, ledgers, news clippings, invitations, programs, speeches, and newspapers. The early part of the collection relates to Dr. Ambrose Baber and contains information on the 1802 William Hunter-David Mitchell duel (Savannah, Ga.); Baber's term as Charge'd Affaires to Sardinia, including correspondence from John MacPherson Berrien (1842-1844); and the establishment of the Montpelier Institute in Monroe County, Georgia. The bulk of the collection falls after 1846. It contains correspondence and journals of George Francis Burleigh Baber during his naval service on the John Adams, Germantown, Dale, and Porpoise. Also included is Civil War correspondence consisting of letters from Joseph William Blackshear of Jackson's Artillery from Camp Brown, St. Simons Island, Georgia, as well as George Dunbar Sweet Smith, who served in South Carolina and Virginia. The remainder of the collection consists of personal correspondence between Marion and William Blackshear; their children Ella, Paul, Birdie, and Minnie Baber-Blackshear; relatives; and friends.
