The collection consists of a disbound scrapbook containing speeches, certificates from Blue Ridge High School and Georgia High School, University of Georgia Glee Club programs, and newspaper clippings regarding the Boys' Quartet of Reinhardt College, and members of the Debating Society at Reinhardt College. Further newspaper clippings regard awards won by Harmon, his activities in the Athens, Clarke County community, and Harmon's "Radio Ramblings" column from the Banner-Herald. Issues of newsletters and magazines concern the religious radio show "Church of Your Choice," winner of a Peabody Award. The collection also includes Harmon's Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Award and George Foster Peabody Award, information about the Peabody Award, advertisements and radio schedules from WDOL Radio, advertisements and information about "Radio-Advertising Clinic," and some photographs.

The scrapbook (1942-1946) contains Army memos, letters, clippings and photographs of Thomas Whitehead and other officers. His handwritten commentary on each page gives more details about his Army career. A folder of loose items documents his return to military service (1950-1952) during the Korean War and his promotion to Colonel at the Army Chemical Center at Edgewood Arsenal in Maryland. Whitehead was head of the Chemical Division, Chemical Corps Chemical and Radiological Laboratories and made several trips to Canada for chemical warfare research. The collection also includes military orders, forms, and correspondence from the 1940s through 1962. The remaining items relate to Thomas Whitehead's professional career in the Chemistry Department at the University of Georgia as well as his time as Dean of the Graduate School from 1968 to 1972.

Forbes, Sr. concern his invention of a process for tanning leather, his formula for the treatment of Ramie fiber, and his job as a sales representative; and include correspondence, handwritten processes, newspaper articles, and Ramie fiber samples. Papers of Helen Forbes Ross include correspondence, newspaper clippings, and photographs pertaining to Ross' marriage, theatrical career and charitable work, most notably the Woman's Christian Temperance Union. The collection also includes photographs and newspaper clippings of George Lester Forbes, Walter T. Forbes II, Walter T. Forbes III, and Chef Carson Gulley.

The collection also contains writings, lecture notes, speeches concerning Phi Kappa Literary Society, a scrapbook-cum-themed-book concerning the college career of Judson Larrabee Hand; newspaper clippings announcing Hand marriages, senate events, and the Hand wine business; and family photographs.

note The Alford family papers document both Celia Kelly Alford and Alice Gertrude. Celia Kelly Alford's papers date from the early 1920s and mostly include State Normal School photographs, memory books, and textbooks. The photographs were removed from the photo albums and placed into archival quality sleeves but the memory books were left intact in order to preserve their intrinsic value. Alice Gertrude's material includes a class photograph and an invitation to the 1911 State Normal School commencement ceremony.

University Archives obtained these materials from Dean Tate's son, Jeff Tate of Athens Georgia. Much of the collection was removed for preservation from two scrapbooks assembled after Tate's death by his wife, the late Susan Frances Barrow Tate (1908-2003). Along with photographs documenting Tate and his family there are views of the University and University activities, materials related to University Chancellor David C. Barrow and Dean Tate's track shoes from his record setting days as a student.
