events memorializing the Senator after his death, as well as a few items concerning the Richard B. Russell Memorial Library.
A copy of Senator Russell's will is included. Smith's record of mailed contributions to Russell's campaign fund is also part
of the collection.
The collection also contains photographs of various United States government officials (Robert McNamara, Herman Talmadge,

Lieutenant Colonel Henry Tift Myers, Sr., a native of Tifton, Georgia, was the first Presidential pilot, and transported Presidents
Franklin D. Roosevelt and Harry S. Truman around the world in specially-designed airplanes that were the predecessors of the
modern Air Force One. Myers also piloted several members of Congress, high ranking military officers, visiting royalty, and
other VIPs and guests of the United States government. Among his notable passengers were Madame Chiang, wife of Chiang Kai-shek,
Mexican President Miguel Alemán, the King and Queen of Greece, and Winston Churchill. He captained the 1943 global war front
flight that carried Senator Richard B. Russell and the Special Senate Subcommittee to inspect military installations. Myers
was also the holder of a number of air speed and flight distance records. The Henry Tift Myers, Sr. Papers document both his
personal and professional life from 1931 to 1968 (bulk 1943-1947), with an emphasis on his service as the first Presidential
pilot during World War II. The collection consists of correspondence, flight logs, printed material, ephemera, clippings,
notes, photographs, drawings, and maps.
