The collection consists of a diary of Eugene LeHardy, written at Rome, Georgia, from 1851 to 1853. Written entirely in French,
LeHardy details his work surveying a railroad line between Rome, Georgia and Jacksonville, Alabama, probably the Selma, Rome
and Dalton Railroad Company. Also includes comments on business affairs, farming and gardening, fruit growing, weather, and
an interesting passage on an exhibition of the Etowah Agricultural and Mechanical Association.
