A letter from Sarah Hunt, addressed to "my dear son" and dated "Riedmont, Feb. 14, 1862." The letter states that Sarah Hunt sent $65, which is all the money she could raise. She hopes that this will pay his and William's board bill and bring them home, and says that "this war is a terrible affair on mothers." She also suggests selling their "notes" in Richmond because "... the Brokers in Richmond are paying a premium for New York funds..."

Mangum to his wife, Louisiana Caroline Catlett as his company moved from place to place during the Civil War. He describes food, health, clothing, news of the fighting, and fellow soldiers. Also included are poems/song ballads which Mangum sent to his wife, letters from the Catlett family, Pearce family genealogy, and promissory notes for money Mangum borrowed for his farming in Hall County and Jackson County, Georgia.

The collection consists of three ledgers kept by Henry Hicks from 1852-1873. Hick's first ledger contains lecture notes from courses taken at the Medical College of Georgia, from lectures given by Drs. Louis A. Dugas, Paul F. Eve, and Robert S. Newton. The remainder of the ledger, and the remaining two ledgers, contains patient accounts, listing name of patient, services provided, charges and medicine dispensed. Ledgers also list the mileage Hicks charged as he traveled to visit his patients. Loose papers include a Freedmen list, an IOU, and a list of accounts. These accounts appear to be from an estate sale on December 28, 1843 and list household goods, livestock and names of people who were enslaved.

The collection consists of papers of James Hamilton from 1785-1868. Papers concern mostly business matters relating to the Hamilton's merchant/factory businesses of McCredie & Hamilton and Hamilton & Couper of Charleston, South Carolina. Records include receipts, shipping records, accounts for sales, and invoices. The collection also includes correspondence from Paris, Liverpool, Rotterdam, Stockholm, Savannah, Baltimore, Embden, St. Simons, Tybee, Palmetto Grove, Wilmington, N.C., Georgetown, and various inlets. Several letters report on conditions of Hamilton's plantation, including crops and people who are enslaved.

The collection consists of genealogy, correspondence, writings, financial papers, printed material, photographs, scrapbooks and sheet music. Most of the correspondence is to Lollie Belle Wylie from other writers, including some famous authors such as Samuel L. Clemens, Richard Harding Davis, Harry Stillwell Edwards, Joel Chandler Harris, Joaquin Miller, and Jack London. There are numerous letters from Orth H. Stein and Henry Wellington Wack. Also included are many letters from Lollie Belle to her daughter Hart. There are several letters of Howell Cobb and T.R.R. Cobb to or about Samuel P. Thurmond. The writings are mainly by Lollie Belle Wylie and include a detailed memoir of her life in the city of Atlanta. The financial papers are primarily promissory notes and receipts of the Ellis family. Some of the sheet music in the collection was composed by Lollie Belle Wylie.
