The majority of posters feature individual artists and groups, promoting their albums and tours. Some publicize festivals and other special events that included many artists, such as Athfest, the Atlanta International Pop Festival, and the Blind Willie McTell Blues Fesitval.

All of these items were collected by Dr. Henry King Stanford during his studies at the University of Heidelberg between September of 1936 and July of 1937. The accession folder for this collection also contains Stanford's narrative translations of the posters, as well as photocopies of three postcards and one Coca-Cola Nazi-era beer mat.
