The W. Fred Orr and Fred Orr II Papers consists of papers, clippings, and photographs documenting the activities of W. Fred Orr and his son, Fred Orr II. In particular, the collection includes papers regarding the 1983 case of the GSEA vs. Governor George Busbee, challenging an early pension granted by the trustees of the Employees Retirement System based on Busbee's contention that his constitutional inability to run for re-election was an "involuntary separation" as a state employee. Fred Orr II represented the GSEA in the case. The GSEA was successful in its challenge of Busbee's claim, as well as influenced permanent change in state legislation. The collection also includes certificates, photographs, and clippings detailing the career of Fred Orr II with his involvement with the Walt Russell campaign for Dekalb County Commissioner as well as clippings detailing his own attempt to run for Dekalb County Commissioner in 1970. This collection also includes clippings detailing Orr's role as cross-examiner for the defense team for Mayor Bill Campbell's criminal trial.

Herman E. Talmadge Collection, Subgroup C, Series VI: Political files document Talmadge's campaigns for the United States Senate seat in 1956 and his re-election campaigns of 1966, 1974 and 1980. Included in this series are correspondence, mailing lists, newspaper clippings, speeches, guest registers, scrapbook, receipts, expenditure reports, printed materials, newsletters, tax returns, and political opinion polls. The purpose of the opinion polls was to reflect support that Talmadge might expect during an election year. However, 1973 and 1974 were both filed separately (with the exception of the federal agencies and county files which were maintained together). Eugene McCarthy served in both the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate before making a run for the presidency in 1967. McCarthy ran as a liberal Democrat; he was very opposed to the war in Vietnam, but was defeated by Hubert Humphrey in the primary. The Clarke County (Ga.) McCarthy for President Organization was formed to promote Eugene McCarthy in the 1968 presidential election. Robert Griffith and Phinizy Spalding, two McCarthy campaign workers from Georgia and University of Georgia history professors, donated this collection, which consists of correspondence, speeches, news clippings, political ephemera, and notes reflecting their work and support for McCarthy's presidential campaign.

Eunice Lastinger Mixon was born in Tifton, Georgia, in 1931 to a family of farmers. She married Albert Mixon in 1948, and beginning in 1956 she attended the University of Georgia, attaining a master's degree and specialist degree in education. She taught eighth-grade science, and high school biology, chemistry and physics for thirty years in the Tift County School System, and was an instructor at the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. In 1974, gubernatorial candidate George Busbee, acquainted with Mixon through his advocacy for teachers in the legislature, appointed her as his Tift County campaign chairman, and her success at grassroots organizing gained her a reputation as a valuable political ally in South Georgia. Since then she has campaigned for President Bill Clinton, Senator Sam Nunn, Congressmen Charles Hatcher and Roy Rowland, and Georgia Commissioner of Agriculture Tommy Irvin. She served as a delegate to the 1988 and 1992 National Democratic Conventions, and as a member of the Georgia Democratic Executive Committee. The papers document Mixon's involvement with the state and national Democratic Parties, her appointment to several state boards and commissions, and community activities in Tifton, Georgia.
