The letters from Rawlings, mainly from Cross Creek (Fla.), Van Hornesville (N.Y.), and St. Augustine (Fla.), are of a personal nature discussing both professional and personal matters. The collection also consists of a type draft of the Sojourner, a partial type and manuscript draft of Centennial (unpublished), and forty-eight sheets of unpublished poems.

The collection consists of galley proofs of an earlier work by Emma Hamilton Bulloch, author of The Marshes of Georgia and Other Poems (Washington, [D.C.] : W. F. Roberts Company, 1913), titled (in ink) on the first page simply "Poems." One poem, "The Cathedral Woods," does appear in both works -- at the beginning of "Poems" and at the conclusion of The Marshes of Georgia. "Poems" contains numerous manuscript corrections and notations, both printer's marks and textual changes. In the upper right corner of page one of the galley is the stamp of Seaman's Advertising Agency. Seaman's Printing House in Durham, North Carolina, was actively involved in job book work during the immediate pre-World War I period and very possibly was handling the publication of "Poems" for Emma Hamilton Bulloch.

The collection consists of a miscellaneous grouping of papers of and concerning Joseph Emerson Brown, Joseph MacKay Brown, and John Burt from 1825-1922. Correspondence addressed to Joseph Emerson Brown concern Appointments, favors, petitions, and Elijah Brown. Postcards addressed to Joseph M. Brown are signed E.B. and L.B. Correspondence from and addressed to John Burt in Westminster, Maryland and Warwick, New York regard Assembly dates, annual reports, favors, receipts; and there are correspondence addressed to James Brady, Henry Kerr, Charles Brown, Mr. A. J. Burt, Stephen Burt, Hon. E. M. Stanton, and others. In addition, there are letters from Washington Allston and Jasper F. Cropsey, newspaper clippings, a scrapbook constructed by Joseph MacKay Brown, and poems (handwritten and clipped from newspapers).

The collection consists of letters written by Inglet to his wife Martha (Mattie) in Berzelia, Georgia (Columbia County) during his service as a Confederate soldier during the Civil War. His letters give details of the war as his company moves to Manassas, VA; Fredericksburg, VA; Richmond, VA; Yorktown, VA; Petersburg, VA; Wilmington, NC; James Island, SC; Baldwin, FL; and Charleston, SC. He names fellow soldiers who are killed or wounded and discusses the harsh conditions of camp life. Also given are details of battles at Williamsburg, Fredericksburg, Petersburg, and Yorktown. He was wounded in the hand on June 27, 1862 at Cold Harbor, VA and in the foot on October 7, 1864 at Darbytown Road, VA. The final letters in the collection are written from hospitals in Virginia (Jackson Hospital in Richmond) and Georgia (Blackie Hospital in Augusta). There is also one undated poem/letter from Martha Inglet to her husband.
