The collection consists of "Mr. William Cooke's plantation book, Creighton Island," containing handwritten entries dating 1861-1868. Entries include allowance lists for enslaved people on Creighton Island, and information regarding the number of persons assigned to a job. The volume also includes description of the weather, local news and events, and entries and accounts concerning Charles Harris Spalding's probate of his father Thomas Spalding's estate. Many of the early entries discuss the enslaved population on the plantation including who works in the field, cooks, nurses, attends to the horses, and serves as blacksmith.

The collection consists of papers of the Thomas Jones family of Thomas County, Georgia from 1819-1889. Thomas Jones' papers include lists of taxable property (slaves, land, livestock, and equipment); indentures; and receipts for the purchase of slaves (names of enslaved people include Adam, a carpenter, Charles, Randal, John, Betsy, Nancy, Abram, Ann, Eliza, Sam, Ned, Bob, Lucy, Cherry, Nelson, Charlott, Robert, Lindy, and Mary). Letters are from Henry Francis Jones to his sister, and between Edwin T. Davis and Mattie Davis; and regard battles, military strategy, and military life. Papers of E.T. Davis concern Davis's military services, and include diary entries with regard to his service with the Dixie Boys of Company A, 57th Georgia Infantry Regiment. The collection also includes plats, indentures, and writs regarding land in Georgia, mainly Irwin and Thomas counties, and a portrait of Thomas Jones.

The collection consists of John Ray's day book, docket book, and plantation book. The day book records debts collected from 1831-1844, and contains some notes concerning land; and the docket book contains notes of proceedings and filings in court cases in Coweta County, Georgia Superior Court from 1843-1865. The plantation book records names of enslaved people, and account of their clothes, rations, and blankets; notes on legal decisions; and recipes for various illnesses, including heart disease, measles, rheumatism, pneumonia, scarlet fever, and asthma. The collection also includes handwritten papers on heart disease; promissory notes, deeds and indentures for land in Newnan, Coweta County, Georgia, a bill of sales for two "Negroes" (named "Roland, 2 years old, and Randal, about 7 years old"); tax records; and records of White Oak Plantation (Coweta County, Ga.) and an unidentified plantation. The plantation records record how much cotton was sold (cotton made at White Oak Plantation).

The collection consists of letters to Arabella Cleveland from the Dent family and a few other friends, although the majority of the letters are from Ophelia. After their father's death, Miriam and Ophelia operated a dairy on the plantation, and the letters describe daily life on the plantation including weather, the Hofwyl dairy, food, flowers, servants, family dogs and poignant letters about their deaths, social events, travel, antiques, sewing and clothes. Ophelia often visited the Belins at their home Evermay (Washington, DC) and the DuPonts at their estate Longwood (Kennett Square, PA). The Dents were friends with the Haynes family at Ashantilly, the Huston family at Butler Plantation and the Phillips family in Savannah.

The materials document the activities of the De Renne family and contain information on land transactions in Georgia; estate or plantation management, particularly Wormsloe Plantation (Savannah, Ga.) and Popular Grove; the Buena Ventura Stock Company and Buena Ventura Ranch (1883-1884) in Tom Green County (Tex.); book and wine purchases for Wormsloe; and the De Rennes' involvement in the Georgia Historical Society and the Georgia Bicentennial (1933). The collection consists of correspondence, writings, printed material, photographs, financial papers, and scrapbooks. The correspondence is divided into family and business with family letters mainly among Alexander H. Stephens, John A. Stephens and Linton Stephens. They discuss family matters, politics and legal cases. Included is a letter from Alexander H. Stephens describing his trip to Athens to take his entrance examination, in which he describes the university and town as well as the countryside between Athens and Washington, Georgia. Business correspondence includes letters from Herschel Johnson, Howell Cobb, Joseph E. Brown, and Joseph H. Lumpkin. There are also items relating to John Stephens' imprisonment at Johnson Island (OH) during the Civil War. Letters during wartime included lists the members of the Stephens Rifles, flag design proposals, petitions for military positions, and discussions on the release of a Union officer from Andersonville. There is a folder of 1851 correspondence concerning a possible duel between Thomas W. Thomas and James M. Smythe, and materials regarding the surveying of Michigan and Texas Territories. Printed material includes several speeches of Alexander H. Stephens. The scrapbooks contain newspapers clippings about Alexander H. Stephens. Included is a plantation account book of the Simpson plantation, in which are lists of enslaved people, a journal of daily farm work, printed rules for managing farms and slaves, and signed contracts with freedmen.
