Marvin McClatchey Jr. (1916-2002), son of Marvin McClatchey (1886-1939) and Juliet Neel McClatchey (1885-1960), and Sally Bruce Blackford McClatchey (1922-2015) are the main focus of the genealogical compilation. Various research files trace the McClatchey line back to John McClatchey from Ireland in the mid-18th century, but original documents are not present until reaching files from the late 19th century. Family line connections are present in genealogy and research files, with some focused files on individuals. Correspondence focuses on Marvin and Juliet before switching to their children, particularly Marvin Jr., in the 1930s. The personal and civic files document Ed Benson's involvement with the 48th Fighter Squadron (1943-1945) and his local civic engagements, especially highlighting the Athens Rotary Club and Mentor Program. The W. H. Benson papers primarily consist of his letters and telegrams sent to politicians at the state and national level regarding legislation and political agendas. The Inauguration series consists of materials related to Charles Knapp's inauguration as the President of the University of Georgia in 1987. The Athletics series has items connected to various sports but mostly deals with the Athletic Association and the University's football team. These materials date from 1983 to 1997. The Financial series includes budgets and fundraising and development documentation. The Administrative series provides insight into the day to day workings of the University of Georgia and its administration during the years 1981 to 1997. The Performing Arts and Visual Arts Complex series mostly consists of material documenting the creation of the complex in the early to mid-1990s. The collection consists of biographical information, correspondence, writings, printed material, photographs, and media. The correspondence includes letters from family, fans, and publishers and letters regarding awards and speaking engagements. Writings include articles, short stories, reviews, and books. Greene has written five books: Praying for Sheetrock (1991), politics and civil rights in McIntosh County (Ga.); Last Man Out (1996), a mine disaster in Springhill, Nova Scotia; The Temple Bombing (2003), the bombing of a synagogue in Atlanta in 1958; There is No Me Without You (2006), AIDS and orphans in Ethiopia; and No Biking in the House Without a Helmet (2011), a humorous look at life with nine childlren. Research for these books includes interviews with the various persons in the books. Also included are manuscript drafts, both handwritten and typed. There are several editions of Greene's books in the printed material and magazines containing her articles. There are photographs of Melissa Fay Greene, but most are of Ethiopian children photographed while researching for There is No Me Without You. Audiovisual material consists mainly of cassette tapes of interviews.

Charlayne Hunter-Gault is a journalist and former correspondent for National Public Radio and CNN. In 1961 she and Hamilton Holmes became the first African Americans to attend the University of Georgia. Hunter-Gault has spent much of her career as a foreign correspondent, where she covered the fall and aftermath of apartheid in South Africa, as well as other political developments in Africa, the Middle East, and the Caribbean. She has been awarded a Peabody award for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism and was named Journalist of the Year by the National Association of Black Journalists in 1986, among numerous other honors. This collection documents her experience as one the first two African American students at the University of Georgia and her career in journalism.

Eunice Lastinger Mixon was born in Tifton, Georgia, in 1931 to a family of farmers. She married Albert Mixon in 1948, and beginning in 1956 she attended the University of Georgia, attaining a master's degree and specialist degree in education. She taught eighth-grade science, and high school biology, chemistry and physics for thirty years in the Tift County School System, and was an instructor at the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. In 1974, gubernatorial candidate George Busbee, acquainted with Mixon through his advocacy for teachers in the legislature, appointed her as his Tift County campaign chairman, and her success at grassroots organizing gained her a reputation as a valuable political ally in South Georgia. Since then she has campaigned for President Bill Clinton, Senator Sam Nunn, Congressmen Charles Hatcher and Roy Rowland, and Georgia Commissioner of Agriculture Tommy Irvin. She served as a delegate to the 1988 and 1992 National Democratic Conventions, and as a member of the Georgia Democratic Executive Committee. The papers document Mixon's involvement with the state and national Democratic Parties, her appointment to several state boards and commissions, and community activities in Tifton, Georgia.

In 1995, Jack Barnette and his son Mark Barnette engaged John Ehrlichman, White House Counsel on Domestic Affairs to President Richard Nixon, to collaborate with them on a film project to tell the inside story of those working in the White House during the Watergate scandal that ultimately brought down the Nixon presidency. The project culminated in long and short versions of the video documentary In the Eye of the Storm, hosted by author Tom Clancy, the video production An Evening with Ehrlichman at London University, and video footage of Bob Woodward's interview of Ehrlichman. This collection consists of production files, interview transcripts, Ehrlichman's files related to the film, and stills and footage contracts.

The collection consists of clippings, printed material, manuscripts, photographs, correspondence, and ephemera documenting a broad range of events, activities, people, and places in the state of Georgia from the earliest American Indian settlements through the early 1980s and, specifically, the history of senators in Georgia through the late 1970s. Drafts and research materials for Josephine Mellichamp's book, Senators from Georgia, provide an abundance of information on the careers of Georgia senators. The drafts of "Georgia Heritage" contained in these papers may be the only extant copies of the manuscript since the material was never published.
