The collection consists of papers of Fleming Jordan from 1842-1865. The majority of the collection consists of letters from
Jordan to his wife while he served in the 44th Georgia Infantry Regiment. Letters are written from Goldsboro, North Carolina,
Richmond, Virginia, and Atlanta, Georgia; and discuss Jordan's health and troop activities. The collection also contains a
letter to Jordan from his uncle, Joshua Hill, U.S. House of Representatives; from Colonel Robert A. Smith, commander of the
44th Regiment; and a letter to Nancy Jordan from J. J. DuBarry, informing Nancy of the death of her brother, Henry Dillon,
in battle.

The collection consists of the papers of the William Gaston Deloney family from 1829-1915. Includes genealogy, land grants,
correspondence, legal documents, and newspaper clippings. The bulk of the collection falls between the years 1861-1863 and
consists of correspondence between Colonel Deloney and his wife, Rosa, in Athens (Ga.) while he served in Cobb's Legion during
the Civil War. Fighting mainly in Virginia, he writes of the Peninsular Campaign and the Battle of Brandy Station (1862) and
the Battle of Chancellorsville (1863). The collection also includes genealogical material on the Deloney, Huguenin, and Baker
families collected by Gordan C. Carson of Savannah, Georgia.

The papers of Gustavus Woodson Smith, 1858-1863, include correspondence with CSA President Jefferson Davis, often quarreling
about army administration and strategy, appointment of staff, and his subsequent resignation as Major General. There is one
letter to his wife Lucretia from New Kent County, Virginia, three reports with revisions on engagements at Eltham Landing
and the Battle of Seven Pines or Fair Oaks during the Peninsular Campaign in Virginia, and operations of the Georgia Militia
near Atlanta during the 1864 Atlanta Campaign. Also included is an original battlefield map showing Smith's route through
Virginia in the vicinity of Fairfax Court House (1861).

The collection consists of papers of the Thomas Jones family of Thomas County, Georgia from 1819-1889. Thomas Jones' papers
include lists of taxable property (slaves, land, livestock, and equipment); indentures; and receipts for the purchase of slaves
(names of enslaved people include Adam, a carpenter, Charles, Randal, John, Betsy, Nancy, Abram, Ann, Eliza, Sam, Ned, Bob,
Lucy, Cherry, Nelson, Charlott, Robert, Lindy, and Mary). Letters are from Henry Francis Jones to his sister, and between
Edwin T. Davis and Mattie Davis; and regard battles, military strategy, and military life. Papers of E.T. Davis concern Davis's
military services, and include diary entries with regard to his service with the Dixie Boys of Company A, 57th Georgia Infantry
Regiment. The collection also includes plats, indentures, and writs regarding land in Georgia, mainly Irwin and Thomas counties,
and a portrait of Thomas Jones.
