The collection consists of papers of Mary Ann Rutherford Lipscomb and the Lipscomb family from 1885-1951. Most of the collection
consists of photographs of the Lipscomb family, the Lucy Cobb Institute (Athens, Ga.), and the Tallulah Falls Industrial School
(Ga.). The collection also contains notes and writings of Mary Ann Lipscomb as well as correspondence including letters from
George Foster Peabody (1922) to Harry Hodgson of Athens, Georgia discussing education for African Americans and the university
school system in Georgia.

autograph books, lecture notes, remedy book, sermons, plantation account books, a scrapbook, and a diary. Also included are
lecture notes, sermons, and a scrapbook of Rev. Andrew A. Lipscomb of Athens, Georgia; a diary of Frank A. Lipscomb from his
European trip; plantation account books of Moses Wadell Linton for Lintondale Plantation in Thomas County, Georgia; correspondence
from Rev. Charles L. Bass to his mother while he served in London, England and Paris, France during World War I; and a remedy
book of Thomas C. Wyche containing recipes for inks, soap, dyes, tonics, and food.

ledgers, Civil War documents, and a will related to the McDowell family and Clovis Talmadge; the diary of a Union soldier;
clippings; and photographs related to the Lipscomb and Rutherford families. The bulk of the collection is comprised of the
correspondence of Georgia McDowell Talmadge and her husband Clovis Talmadge during and immediately following the Civil War.
Transcriptions of the almost all of the correspondence and the will are included.
