The collection consists of one letter dated August 4, 1839, to Alexander H. Stephens in Crawfordville, Georgia. In the letter, Linton relates the details of his travels by stage to Athens to attend the University of Georgia. Once in Athens he discusses meeting Dr. Alonzo Church and Joseph and Lewis LeConte, taking his college entrance examination, joining Phi Kappa Literary Society, and finding living accommodations and a roommate.
