Coulter and Kenneth Colemen; correspondence with archaeologist Charles Fairbanks relating to the preservation of Ft. Frederica; and letters between Cate, John Marsh, and Margaret Mitchell Marsh. The collection also contains records relating to Cate's personal genealogical research.

The collection consists of personal papers of E. Merton Coulter from 1898-1981. The papers include correspondence, clippings, diaries, financial records (1920-1977), lecture notes, student papers, grade books (1914-1958), and writings of others, as well as printed material, photographs, and slides pertaining to Georgia or Coulter's travels abroad. The correspondence (1898-1981) includes carbons (1946-1979) of Coulter's outgoing letters and incoming correspondence to Coulter from scholars, publishers, and former students. The correspondence reflects Coulter's activities at the University of Georgia (1919-1958); the publication of his books and articles; his activities with the American Historical Association, the Southern Historical Association, and the Georgia Civil War Centennial Commission; and his association with various historians. The most extensive group of correspondence (1929-1965) is with Roland M. Harper of the University of Alabama. The diaries (1910-1981, with gaps) contain often lengthy but sporadic entries describing Coulter's travels, his writings, his opinion of Georgia politics, and his daily activities. After 1952, the entries become very brief and focus on his daily activities.

This collection contains meeting notes, membership ledgers, scrapbooks, photographs, correspondence, and business documents from the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Laura Rutherford Chapter and the Colonial Dames of the Seventeenth Century, Elijah Clarke Chapter. A large portion of the collection documents Ms. LaCavera's time with these organizations. It also contains notes, genealogy, and writing produced by Tommie LaCavera and her contemporary, Beth Abney. Documents and printed material from other hereditary and service organizations that Ms. LaCavera was involved with are also included. Another component of this collection is historical documents from the early Nineteeth Century, including deeds, correspondence, receipts, checks and land documents from the Kunze and Johnson families of Georgia, as well as the Ballister family from Kentucky, among others.

The materials document Spalding's interests in historic preservation, particularly in Clarke County (Ga.); his tenure as professor of history at the University of Georgia (1966-1991) including information on the Phinizy Lectures; his editorship (1974-1982) of the Georgia Historical Quarterly; as well as information pertaining to publication of his books and articles. The collection also contains information on the Cobbham Historic District, Athens Clarke Heritage Foundation, Lucy Cobb Institute, and the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation. The papers include correspondence, legal documents, genealogical materials, clippings, as well as speeches and writings of William Harden. The bulk of the collection (1844-1936) consists of correspondence to William Harden or Judge Edward J. Harden. Letters to William Harden pertain to Georgia history and family genealogy as well as letters documenting Harden's duties as Secretary of the Sons of the Revolution (Savannah, Ga.) and as Librarian for the Georgia Historical Society (Savannah, Ga.). Correspondence to Judge Edward Jenkins Harden discusses Georgia politics and law cases. Notable correspondents include Joseph Henry Lumpkin, Charles Colcock Jones, Jr., and Caroline Miller. Also includes correspondence of other family members including John Maxwell Harden, Edward T. Harden, and Ann Harden Morse. Of particular interest, are a series of letters (1826-1857, with gaps) from George Michael Troup to Dr. W.C. Daniels of Savannah (Ga.).
