The collection consists of 368 booklets dealing with newspaper clippings, court minutes, and minutes of various county departments. Some are typescripts, carbon copies of the typescripts, and handwritten copies of the original county records. These were compiled by the Historical Records Survey from 1938-1941, and were deposited in the Atlanta office. When the WPA office closed, the records were dispersed to various institutions in Georgia. A calendar compiled in 1971 by Susan Tate accompanies the collection.

The collection consists of two documents related to the Yazoo Land Fraud. The first piece, dated March 3, 1795, is the enrolled copy of the congressional resolution authorizing "that the President of the United States be, and hereby is requested to give directions to the Attorney General, to collect, digest, report to the next Congress, the Charters, treaties and other documents relative to, and explanatory of the title to the land situate in the south-western parts of the United States, and claimed by certain companies, under a law of the State of Georgia...". Accompanying it is a manuscript circular letter dated July 28, 1795, signed by Edmund Randolph as Secretary of State to Thomas Pinckney, Minister Plenipotentiary in London discussing the resolution.

The collection consists of correspondence of the Champion family from 1816-1869. The bulk of the collection contains letters written by Aaron Champion of Savannah (Georgia) or Moses Champion of Monticello (Georgia) to Dr. Reuben Champion, Jr. of West Springfield (Massachusetts). The Champions comment on the social, political, and economic situations occurring in Georgia during. The collection also contains an 1816 letter from H. Stebbins of Savannah to Dr. Reuben Champion, Jr. pertaining to Savannah, the people, commerce, and slavery; three letters from Henry Champion of Montgomery (Alabama) to Dr. Champion discussing the proposed statehood of what was then the western territory; and a series of letters written from Savannah during the Civil War discussing the formation of the Confederacy, the progress of the war, and its effect upon the civilian population.

Bound in a volume, the papers contain legal instruments including wills and indentures, business records, sales and dispensations of enslaved people, and correspondence documenting land transactions, legal matters, political matters, and family concerns. The materials document three generations of the Jones family including Noble Jones, Noble Wymberly Jones, and George Jones. The last will and Testament of Noble Jones includes the bequest of Wormslow [Wormsloe] and enslaved people.

The collection consists of approximately 250 letters from E.A. Nisbet to Amanda Battle before and after their 1825 marriage. There are a few letters from their children and their friends. Although Nisbet's letters deal mainly with family matters, he also discusses politics and fellow politicians, especially while in Washington, D.C. The collection also includes two framed oil portraits and a pecan desk chair. One of the paintings is of Amanda Battle, dated 1841, and with the frame is 36 1/2" x 32," the other is of E.A. Nisbet and is 20 1/4" x 17". The chair, which has a carved back with four spindles and an upholstered seat, belonged to Amanda Nisbet.

The collection consists of papers pertaining to the family and decedents of the Oliver Hillhouse Prince from 1785-1919. A considerable number of documents focus on Oliver Hillhouse Prince, Jr., including his interest in the genealogy of the Prince family and documents relating to his service in Cobb's Legion during the Civil War. Correspondence is written by or addressed to Abraham Baldwin, Mrs. Martha Price, Martha J. Jackson, Dr. H. Jackson, and John B. Lamar. Of particular interest is a parody of a court case at the Honorable Mouse-Owlry court, in Bibb County, where Billy Beeswax of Honey Comb Hall is petitioning that Peter Pushroot pays him the 400 bushels of potatoes he is owed. The collection also includes wills of Oliver H. Prince, Henry Jackson, Joseph Webber; and a scrapbook containing mostly printed pictures and newspaper clippings relating to Georgia political matters and deaths of Prince family members and notable Athenians.

During 1850-1859 his letters come from Washington, D.C. while he served in the U.S. Senate. During the Civil War, he wrote from Virginia (1862) and Atlanta, Georgia (1864). Following the war, letters are written from Paris (1866-67) while he was in exile. The collection consists of papers of Joseph E. Brown from 1823-1895 and includes correspondence, letter books, tax returns, speeches, and diaries. It contains official correspondence and letterbooks (1858-1863) as Governor of Georgia which are particularly strong in information regarding Georgia's secession and involvement in the Civil War and includes such correspondents as Howell Cobb, Alexander H. Stephens, and other Confederate government officials. Also included are an 1864 speech of Howell Cobb, a speech (1868) made by Brown regarding Reconstruction politics, and a manuscript copy (1864) of Brown's pamphlet concerning Benjamin H. Hill's notes on Reconstruction. The collection also contains diaries of Franklin P. Brown (1868), Joseph Mackey Brown (1867, 1874, 1876), and Elijah A. Brown (1882, Jan. only). Much of this collection is transcribed with full transcripts in boxes 7-10.
