This collection consists of a wide variety of maps documenting Georgia. Many of the annotated maps were donated as part of
the Marion R. Hemperley papers, which document the the work of Dr. John H. Goff and Hemperley's work on the Placenames of
Georgia and Cities, Towns, and Communities of Georgia. These annotated highway maps include information on post roads, forts,
place names, boundary lines, church names, etc.

The collection consists of writings, printed material, maps, clippings, photographs and artifacts. This collection also includes
material from Dr. Goff's research including preliminary notes for articles, working copies of Georgia county maps, and the
incomplete manuscript for "Off to Alabama." Dr. Goff asked Hemperley to complete some of his writings and this collection
contains research and notes pertaining to this project. Aslo included are stone fragments, pottery fragments, 18th century
nails, Civil War bullets, and a 19th century brass spike.
Georgia maps stamped "Dr. John H. Goff Collection" were removed from this collection and added to the county map folders in
the Hargrett Library Map Collection.

newspapers and magazines, including "Harper's Weekly," "Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper," "Illustrated London News,"
"Gleason's Pictorial Drawing-Room Companion," and "Collier's Weekly." There are also maps of Georgia. Many of the items concern
the Civil War, such as a picture of Andersonville prison camp and maps of Sherman's campaign in Georgia.
