In the letter Pleasant replies to an earlier letter from the Lieutentant regarding investments including Georgia Railroad and Union Bank stock, and discusses the future value of Confederate money and disposition of Confederate property. He also writes about a family visit and the health of various family members, and makes general comments about the War.

One volume of morning reports of the 1st Georgia Militia Regiment of the Confederate States of America Army, commanded by Colonel Edward M. Galt, from February 25 - December 8, 1863. The inside cover lists the officers in the unit. Beginning entries place company in Savannah, Georgia then later in Etowah, Camp Foster and give the troops strength. Written on the front of the volume is the inscription "This book was captured at the Battle of Jonesboro, Ga. Augt. 31st, 1864. We made the Rebels Dust."
