A typescript of Athens: American Guide Series, compiled by the Athens and Augusta units of the Federal Writers' Project (WPA)
and incorporates much of the research preformed by the WPA writers in county archives and personal interviews. The typescript
has numerous manuscript notations and attempts an historical, social, and economic overview of the Athens community from its
beginnings until the date of the research (1935-1938).

of the Works Progress Administration of Georgia and Georgia Writers' Project from 1934-1942. Inculded are the Works Progress
Administration of Georgia History Records Survey, Field Worker's Correspondence Forms; State Editorial Identification Forms;
Questionnaire to all mayors for data on points of interest in cities; Federal Writer's Project, Instructions for Architectural
Series, American Building Materials; and correspondence from Works Progress Administration of Georgia, Atlanta, Georgia, regarding
compilation of The American Guide and the State Guide. The remainder of the collection contains histories of Georgia cities,
towns, and people, including (but not limited to) hospitals, parks, military organizations, landmarks, music, architecture,
and agriculture.

to Maxwell's activities as an author, editor, and educator. The correspondence contains several letters (1934-1946) from Maxwell
to his mother, Maude Maxwell. The letters discuss Maxwell's writings, publication and readings of his works, his production
of radio programs, Maxwell's anti-war stance, his involvement with the Federal Writers' and Federal Theatre Projects, and
various jobs he held to support himself while writing.
