The collection consists of letters between Dr. E. J. Eldridge and his wife, Emma, while he served as a surgeon with the 16th Georgia Infantry Regiment and later with Cobb's Legion from 1861-1865. His letters tell of his duties and they often give descriptions of battles, including Fredericksburg in Virginia, and the Atlanta Campaign (1864).
