This collection documents Mary Frances Early, the first African American to graduate from the University of Georgia. Ms. Early's transcripts, grades, financial aid documents, photographs, diaries, and notebooks illustrate her student life. After graduating from the University of Georgia in 1962, with her master's in music education, she worked for the Atlanta Public Schools and was involved in local, state and national educational organizations. Ms. Early's involvement with organizations such as Georgia Music Educators Association, National Endowment for the Arts, and Music Educators National Conference is illustrated by correspondence, photographs, and speeches. Also included are materials regarding her education at Clark Atlanta University (1957) and honors received from the University of Georgia Alumni Association and College of Education. The collection contains correspondence, photographs, programs and event files, official documents from the University of Georgia, diaries, and notebooks.

The Walter Danner papers span the years 1940 through 1973 and is divided into two series: Desegregation (1959-1961) and Administratve Materials/Correspondence (1940-1973). The first series, Desegregation, deals with the efforts of African Americans (particularly Charlayne Hunter and Hamilton Holmes) to be accepted to the University of Georgia and the actions Danner took as Registrar. The second series, Administrative Materials/Correspondence, includes correspondence and other materials that show Danner's interactions with University of Georgia departments and faculty along with with various outside organizations.

The collection consists of the papers of the Hillyer family from 1805-1990 with the bulk between 1805-1874. Materials from the early years (1805-1819) pertain to Shaler Hillyer and consist of a letter and account book describing Petersburg, Elbert County, Georgia. The collection contains a memoir written by Junius Hillyer describing life on his family's plantation, slavery, the family's move to Athens, Georgia (1821), Junius' attendance at grammar school, descriptions of and activities at Franklin College (University of Georgia). Also includes photocopies of letters from William Dickerson and Peter Wellborn Martin, friends of the Hillyers; materials pertaining to the publication of THE LIFE AND TIMES OF JUDGE JUNIUS HILLYER; and dedication of a marker at the Freeman Hillyer homeplace in Popular Grove, Georgia.

The Stovall and McKay Family Papers document Walter Louis and Alice Woodliff Stovall, and their children: Walter Louis, Jr., James Edwin, Mary Katherine, Sarah Elizabeth, Martha Woodliff, and George Woodliff. The majority of the collection is correspondence between the three girls and their parents and document their daily lives. Also, there are letters between George and his wife, Martha McKay, during his service in the Air Corps during World War II. A small amount of correspondence from George and Martha's son, Walter L. Stovall III and his wife Charlayne Hunter (Gault) discuss their controversial biracial marriage and the birth of their daughter. The McKay papers belonged to Martha McKay and her brother Wright Judson McKay. The majority of her files are related to the Sub-Debs, a women's civic club, established in 1934. There is also scrapbook about J. E. Mathis, McKay's maternal grandfather.
