The collection consists of diaries, speeches and an autograph book of Clement A. Evans. The first diary is inscribed "C.A.
Evans, 31st Georgia Regiment, Gordon's Brigade, Early's Division, Ewell's Corps." The beginning of the diary is a ledger used
to keep accounts of regimental supplies from 1862-1863, and includes some sketches. The second part transitions into a full
diary about Evans' daily experiences in the war during 1864. Final pages of the diary include a handwritten roster of students
of Law School, Augusta, Georgia, 1833-1859. The second diary contains a list of fees and commissions of C.A. Evans, Stewart
County, Georgia, dated 1860-1861. The diary also contains entries regarding Atlanta Trinity Church, 1871-1874. The diaries
dated 1903-1904 are rather extraordinary in design. Clement A. Evans, Sarah Lee Evans, and Lucy Evans all write on the same
page for each day. Some of their notes mention each other. Sarah Lee and Lucy write more about Sunday school and home life,
and Clement writes about state business and anniversaries of Confederate leaders and Civil War battles. In January 1904, Clements
comments extensively on General John Brown Gordon's illness, death, and funeral. Likewise, he talks about his visits with
Stephen Dill Lee. The family does split up throughout the year, with Clement staying in Augusta and the girls staying in Atlanta.
Clement often discusses business with the Board of Pardon Commission.
The collection also consists of The Life of Nathanael Greene, Major-General in the Army of the Revolution, published in 1858;
two oration books; and an autograph book. The autograph book contains autographs of federal governmental officials, secretaries,
Supreme Court officials, congressmen, and territorial delegates. Some names include Rutherford B. Hayes and Lucy W. Hayes,
M.R. Waite, Stephen J. Field, Joseph P. Bradley, John M. Harlan, Alexander H. Stephens, Eppa Hunton, and George C. Cabell.
