The Zell Miller Papers document Miller's forty-five year career in Georgia politics, including his service as a U.S. Senator (2000-2005), Governor of Georgia (1991-1999), Lieutenant Governor of Georgia (1975-1991), Executive Director of the Georgia Democratic Party (1971-1973), member of the State Boards of Pardons and Paroles, Probation, and Children and Youth (1964-1973), Executive Secretary to Governor Lester Maddox (1969-1971), State Senator (1961-1965), and Mayor of Young Harris, Georgia (1959-1960). Series III. Lieutenant Governor documents Miller's service as Georgia's longest serving Lieutenant Governor, including promotional material from campaigns, speeches, clippings, correspondence, news releases, memoranda, political cartoons and scrapbooks.

The collection consists of the papers of Rodney M. Cook from 1951 to 1978. The political series (1951-1978) contains papers relating to Cook's campaigns for public office including the Atlanta Board of Aldermen (1961, 1965), Atlanta Mayor (1969), Georgia Legislature (1965-1970), Congress (1972), and Georgia Governor (1978). The series also contains records relating to Cook's involvement with Republican Party activities at the local, state, and national level. The Aldermen series (1951-1972) documents Cook's service on the Atlanta Board of Aldermen. Records include subject files and committee files relating to such subjects as civil rights, Atlanta government, urban renewal, and zoning. The legislative papers relate to his tenure as a representative-at-large for Fulton County in the Georgia Legislature (1952-1972) and include such topics as Cook's support of the seating of Julian Bond, the 1971 special session for redistricting, his service as chairman of the Joint Senate-House Committee on Computerized Criminal Records Study, and his involvement with the development of Atlanta.

This collection documents the life of William H. (Bill) Burson (1928-1997) and the various positions he held under Senator Herman Talmadge; Governors Carl Sanders, Lester Maddox, and Jimmy Carter; and Lieutenant Governor Zell Miller. Burson graduated from the University of Georgia with a BA in Journalism in 1948 and served as a war correspondent in the Korean War. After the war, Burson served as an aide to Senator Herman Talmadge and later to Governor Carl Sanders. In 1967, the newly elected governor, Lester Maddox, appointed him to be director of the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services. Over the next three years Burson fought a "War on Hunger" attempting to create food stamps programs across Georgia. Burson was elected as State Treasurer in 1970 and campaigned for the U.S. Senate in 1972. After losing the senatorial campaign, Burson worked as a lobbyist for business interests in the Southeast. In 1975, he became Zell Miller's administrative and special assistant, a position he held until his retirement in 1991. The collection is comprised primarily of twenty-five scrapbooks that detail Burson's life and career from 1933 to 1991. Also included are photographs, editorial cartoons, books, certificates, and plaques.
