Coleman writes about his personal feelings for Bracco, and provides criticism and support of Bracco's work. Coleman also writes about how Bracco has influenced him. There is also correspondence from Lonnie to Roy Williams, Nowell Briscoe, and Oma Ratchford from 1980-1982. The collection also consists of correspondence regarding a biography Nowell Briscoe is writing about Lonnie Coleman from 1983-1986. Correspondence is between Briscoe and James Oliver Brown of Curtis Brown Associates, LTD; Briscoe and Edgar Bracco; and Briscoe and Dr. Roy Williams. Correspondence between Briscoe and Bracco concern Bracco's relationship with Lonnie Coleman. Also included are interview questions Briscoe asked Dr. Roy Williams (regarding Coleman) and a typescript of the interview. Some of the letters from Nowell Briscoe are photocopies of the original letters.

The collection consists of biographical information, family correspondence, personal correspondence, business correspondence, writings and speeches, financial papers, printed material, photographs, and artifacts. Family correspondence is between Burch and his parents, siblings, aunts, nieces and nephews. He writes descriptive letters from Japan in 1954 and more from London in 1978-1979. A majority of the business correspondence is with publishers, especially Viking Press, the publisher of most of his books. There is also correspondence with elementary schools, high schools, colleges, and libraries that he visited for speaking engagements, conferences and book signings. Writings include journals of his freighter trips, and typed versions and galley proofs of many of his books. A large portion of the financial papers are royalty statements from the sale of his books. There are photographs of Burch and his family and friends, and photographs of Japan taken while he lived there. Also included are photographs of dogs, ducks, swans, and koi all of which he considered as pets.
