The Athens Music Project Oral History Collection is part of the Athens Music Project (AMP), a Willson Center for Humanities and Arts research cluster co-directed by Jean Kidula and Susan Thomas. Interviews in this collection document the development of Athens as a breeding ground for multiple musical communities--the most prominent of them being the Southern independent rock scene. Other areas to be documented include a variety of African-American musical traditions, hip-hop, jazz, bluegrass, folk music traditions, Latin music, new music and conceptual sound art, classical music, and musical theater, and AthFest.

The Athens-Clarke County (Georgia) Unification Files document the dissolution of the governments of the city of Athens and Clarke County and the creation of a new consolidated government known as Athens-Clarke County on January 14, 1991. Documented to a lesser degree is Paul Hardy, University of Georgia Carl Vincent Institute of Government professor and attorney, and his role in the unification process and drafting of the final charter. The files consist of correspondence and memos, charter drafts and summary reports, commission meeting agendas and minutes, research materials, legal and financial information, organization charts, maps, clippings, and advertising materials.

The M. Louise McBee Papers documents the political activities of Louise McBee who served as a democratic legislator in the House of Representatives from 1991 until 2004. Prior to serving as a legislator for Athens-Clarke County, McBee was an educator and held administrative positions at the University of Georgia from 1963 until 1988. At UGA, Dr. McBee held positions as: the Dean of Women, the Dean of Students, the Assistant Vice President for Instruction, and the Vice President of Academic Affairs. This collection includes records of McBee's activities as a legislator. Records include correspondence and research files as well as files relating to different legislative committees McBee served on. Topics covered in this collection includes: the HOPE scholarship, higher education, Teachers' Retirement System, Gay Marriage Amendment, Georgia World Congress Center, transportation, and issues relating to Athens-Clarke County. The collection consists of records of the Athens-Clarke County Charter Commission to formulate a workable charter for consolidation of city and county governments. The collection includes: correspondence, general material, minutes of charter commission, public hearings, vouchers, receipts, draft copies, preliminary organization material, audits, tax levies, newspaper and magazine articles and miscellaneous printed material. Note: The question of consolidation was defeated in a referendum on May 24, 1972.
