The collection mainly consists of correspondence of Sydney C. Heindel, Jr. to his parents in Cornelia, Georgia, from 1942-1946. Heindel's letters detail his training at military camps and schools in California, Nebraska, and at the Army Specialized Training Program (Stanford University, California). Heindel also writes from China and India, describing his duties with the Maintenance Company, the locales, news of family and friends, books he has read, and military social life. The collection consists of correspondence, photographs, and ephemera dated from 1919 to 1963 and collected by the William Bruce Eidson family of Ways (or Richmond Hill), Bryan County, Georgia. The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence from William Bruce Eidson, Jr. to his parents from 1939 to 1952 while he was a student at Georgia Tech, in the army as a flight trainee and part of its specialized training program, and a journalism student at the University of Georgia after the war. Also included is a group of letters written by William Bruce Eidson to his wife from 1919 to 1952 while he worked elsewhere in the lumber trade and later as part of the Civilian Conservation Corps and in Columbus, Georgia at Fort Benning.
