Personal correspondence discusses family concerns, land transactions, social life of the period, and bills pertaining to groceries and sewing. Major correspondents include William Ephraim Smith, Jr.; Lou. S. Smith; Mary Smith; Carrie Smith; Samuel W. Smith and Sallie Williams. Collection also contains one letter, unsigned, describing a meeting with President Franklin Pierce.
