The shop book contains accounts for customers (probably in DeKalb County, Georgia). It lists the customer name, date, cost, and services (such as sharpening a plow or repairing a wagon wheel or garden hoe). The accounts for 1884-1885 concern cotton sales. Also included are a few recipes from newspapers and an 1898 church program for the Mill District Sunday School Association Clifton Church. There are modern day notebook pages taped over some pages in the book. On these are handwritten transcripts of letters from an unidentified father to his son in Savannah, Georgia regarding the sale of enslaved people on a plantation.

The collection consists of an account book, kept by Captain Thomas Cole, from August 1777 - March 1778. The book concerns the time between he fought in the Battle of Red Bank (Fort Mercer), NJ in October 1777 and the Battle of Rhode Island in August 1778. The volume gives a detailed account of supplies for Continental soldiers first at Peeks Kill, New York then Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. Entries include information on wages paid as well as guns, bayonets, cartridge boxes, blankets, and clothing issued to soldiers.

The volume also includes description of the weather, local news and events, and entries and accounts concerning Charles Harris Spalding's probate of his father Thomas Spalding's estate. Many of the early entries discuss the enslaved population on the plantation including their roles laboring in the field, cooking, nursing, attending the horses, and blacksmithing

Note The collection consists of the papers of Edward Harden and other Harden and Jackson family members of Savannah and Athens, Georgia from 1779-1928, including letters, receipts, autographs, commissions, deeds, diaries, scrapbooks. Materials relating to Edward Harden, a planter [enslaver] and politician from Savannah and Athens, include indentures, receipts, account books (1836-1842) for his law practice, and common place books (1805, 1830-1837) containing accounts for his plantations, legal notes, and journal entries. Some materials describe persons enslaved by Edward Harden. Also included are the diaries of Mary Ann Elizabeth Randolph, Mary Elizabeth Greenhill Harden, and Edward Harden Jr.'s children. The diaries (1864-1928) of Harden's great-niece, Eveline Harden Jackson, describe her school days, social activities, the Civil War, and news of family and friends.

The collection consists of papers of Peninah W. Thomas and the Thomas family of Athens (Ga.) from 1821-1959. The papers include correspondence, bills and receipts, account books, legal documents, and sermons (1890s) written by Robert Toombs DuBose. The bills and receipts (1821-1910) contain several receipts for wages paid by Peninah W. Thomas to freedmen. The account books (1834-1845) contain bank accounts of Stevens Thomas and lists of accounts and purchases. The correspondence includes letters (1838-1870) between Peninah W. Thomas and her daughters Ella (Hull), Batavia (Clinch), and Mary (Saffold). The letters mainly contain news of family or friends and social events, but of particular interest are letters from Batavia living in Connecticut during the Civil War. The letters discuss the fall of Ft. Sumter and northerners' inability to understand southern attitudes. Also included are letters from Thomas Reynolds and John Shannon discussing plantation management, the cotton market, and other details of Thomas' business interests. From 1870-1941 letters are between Jennie Stovall (DuBose) and Robert Toombs DuBose, mostly personal but also containing some information on Georgia land sales, his ministry, and service in the Georgia House of Representatives.

The collection consists of papers of the Tate family of Gordon and Pickens counties, Georgia from ca. 1849-1975. The papers consist primarily of correspondence, both business and personal. The business correspondence relates to the Tates' involvement in the Georgia Marble Company (Tate, Georgia) and the Kennesaw Marble Company (Marietta, Ga.). The personal correspondence is mainly between Edna Ferguson Tate and her children Sarah and William Tate. Sarah's letters are from Agnes Scott College (Decatur, Ga.) where she was a student and from Orlando (Fla.) where she took a teaching job. William's letters are first as a student and later as an instructor and Dean of Men at the University of Georgia and contain a substantial amount of material relating to activities at the University and events in Athens, Georgia. Other correspondents include Philip May Tate, Stephen C. Tate, Florence M. Tate, and Samuel Tate. The collection also contains photographs of the Tate family and the Georgia Marble Company; account books ca. 1882-1904 pertaining to Sam'l & S.L. Tate & Co. (a general store) and the Georgia Marble Company; and materials relating to the history of Pickens County (Ga.).

The collection consists of papers of Nellie Peters Black from 1875-1920. The collection primarily contains materials relating to Black's involvement in various organizations and in her stock farm. Includes records (1905-1928) relating to Black's position as secretary of the Women's Auxiliary of the Atlanta Archdeaconry of the Episcopal Church; programs (1906-1907, 1909-1911) of the Every Saturday Club (Atlanta, Ga.), a literary society; a scrapbook (1898-1911) containing correspondence, accounts, and newspaper clippings relating to her involvement in the Atlanta Free Kindergarten Association; and a scrapbook (1914-1915) documenting her role in establishing agricultural rallies through the Georgia Federation of Women's Clubs. Other materials relating to Black include diaries of a trip to Mexico (1875) and two European tours (1904, 1906); speeches, newspaper clippings, and an extensive collection of photographs of the Peters and Black families. The papers include the manuscript and galley proofs of the reminiscences of her father, Richard Peters; some correspondence of her husband George R. Black; and account books (1897-1916) of the Richard Peters Stock Farm (Calhoun, Gordon County, Ga.). Also includes papers of her daughter Nita Black Rucker (1900-1940) mainly family correspondence and Rucker's writings about Cora Harris and Nellie Black Peters.
