The collection consists of three letters from Ulrich Bonnell Phillips to Dr. Robert Preston Brooks (University of Georgia faculty). In his first letter, dated March, 25, 1907, Phillips suggests sources of American history, England during the colonial period, and "the colonies of South Carolina, Georgia, Barbados and Jamaica as a group." Letters dated October 5, 1907 and February 11, 1908 are more personal in nature. Phillips responds to questions Brooks asked in previous letters, and suggests sources of Georgia history, their locations and use.

In it he discusses the deaths and desertions of crewmembers; movements of ships through the Potomac Flotilla off Port Royal, South Carolina; a shipwreck; and attacks on Fort Fisher and Fort Anderson on the Cape Fear River.

The collection consists of 20 boxes of materials, including candles and candle-holders (largest component by volume), myriad original and copied textual materials, posters, photographs, flags, lanterns, license plates, ceramics, medallions, jewelry, small fabric arrays and perishable floral offerings. The floral and candle components were sampled, and inscriptions in-situ were photographed. Among the more significant items is a sketchbook turned into a book of inscriptions where passers-by could share their thoughts. The collection also includes smaller additions of materials left at the Arch on the first and second anniversaries of the event (2002 and 2003).

This collection mostly consists of University of Georgia academic related material dating from the 19th century through 1945 but does hold a few records dating to 1978. Some academic items include recordbooks (grade reports and class records), graduation information, correspondence, application and transferral forms along with material related to various student organizations. Among the artifacts are such things as a time capsule dating from 1872. Some items of particular interest are two tuition books dating from 1821 to 1826 and 1838 to 1850. There also are 1932-1938 records from the Coordinate College and a large number of student reports from 1905 through 1916 (grades, correspondence, etc.) relating to Charles Mercer Snelling's time as a professor and dean at the University.

Townsend; and the third order is for 1,800 copies of the speech of Hon. John S. Bigby, of the state of Georgia, on Congressional reconstruction – Georgia politics, delivered in the House of Representatives, February 24, 1872, subscribers' names including John S. USS Richard B. Russell (SSN 687), the thirty-seventh and final Sturgeon class nuclear attack submarine to be built, had its keel laid at the Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company, Newport News, Virginia on October 19, 1971. The ship was christened Richard B. Russell (SSN 687) on January 12, 1974 by Elizabeth Talmadge and Herman Talmadge was the speaker at the launching ceremony. During its eighteen years of service USS Richard B. Russell was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation, seven Navy Unit Commendations, and seven Battle Efficiency "E" awards. On June 24, 1994 the ship was decommissioned. This collection includes several flags, one model of the USS Russell, a scrapbook, stickers and patches, and inactivation ceremony programs.

The collection consists of the logbook of the Union screw steamer Western World from 1862. Daily entries by Samuel B. Gregory regard the weather, crew activities, food, and ship operations. Gregory writes about blockading activities off Charleston, S.C., and Savannah, Frederica, St. Simons, and Doboy Sound, Georgia; numerous encounters with Confederate ships and blockade-runners in the North Santee River (S.C.); and raids on several plantations. Three handwritten letters and a bill of sale are laid in the log.
