The collection consists of correspondence between members of the Richard Wylly Habersham family of Savannah and Clarkesville, Georgia, from 1812-1862. Correspondents include Barnard Elliott Habersham, Sarah Habersham, Catherine Habersham, Harriet E. Mathewes, Alexander Wylly Habersham, Francis Barnard Habersham, and C. Elliot. Of particular interest are letters written to Barnard Habersham from Richard Wylly Habersham regarding national affairs from 1840-1842. Correspondence also concerns family affairs, epidemics of cholera and yellow fever in Savannah, Georgia, and travels to Barbados and South America.

The collection consists of correspondence (and transcripts) from John G. La Roque, of the 4th Georgia Infantry Regiment, mainly to his wife, Nannie M. La Roque, from 1862-1864. La Roque's letters discuss the death of his son, his health and that of his wife, the morale and health of the men in Company E, troop movements in Virginia, casualties and deaths, news of friends and family, the problems of obtaining clothing for soldiers, the battle of Spotsylvania, Virginia, and his capture and imprisonment at Ft. Delaware, Delaware. The collection also contains one letter from La Roque to F.A. Billingslea, dated April 27, 1863, asking Billingslea to collect money owed La Roque and describing the readiness and troop strengths under General Jackson.

A letter from Josiah Tattnall to General Henry C. Wayne that conveys Tattnall's intent to travel to Washington, D.C. to resign his post as Commodore of the U.S. Navy, in response to Georgia's vote to secede from the Union, and to immediately return to Georgia to join the state navy. After many battles as a flag officer of the Confederate Navy, Tattnall was later captured by Sherman in Savannah in late 1864.

The Georgiana Vertical Files collection consists of newsclippings on a great variety of topics regarding Georgia, and reflect a vast range of the state's history from the 1800s to 1998. This portion of the collection contains general topical files. Clippings were accepted from all sources but the most regular clippings come from the daily newspapers of Athens, Macon, Augusta, Columbus, Savannah and and the Atlanta metropolitan area, and reflect a focus on those areas.

William asks to borrow $500 to purchase "Elbert," which may have been in reference to a slave. Also included is a brief biographical history of John W. Park.
