The collection consists of papers of Edwin King Lumpkin from 1881-1921. The majority of the collection pertains to Lumpkin's Athens (Ga.) law firm, Lumpkin & Burnett and includes mainly correspondence relating to law cases of Lumpkin and his partner Wiley B. Burnett. The collection contains personal correspondence to family and friends, including his brother Joseph H. Lumpkin, and his wife and children. The personal correspondence pertains to his law practice, social life in Athens (Ga.), Lumpkin's interest in national and state politics, and in particular the campaigns of kinsman Hoke Smith. The J.T. Dudley papers (1906-1912) contain correspondence dealing with buying and selling land throughout the South. The papers of Edwin K. Lumpkin, Jr. (1910-1915) consist mainly of correspondence relating to his legal practice. The papers of Lumpkin's law partner, Wiley B. Burnett contain mainly bills and receipts, with a few letters relating to the law firm.

The collection consists of correspondence from Robert Toombs to his wife, Julia Ann DuBose Toombs in Washington, Wilkes County, Georgia from 1850-1867. During 1850-1859 his letters come from Washington, D.C. while he served in the U.S. Senate. During the Civil War, he wrote from Virginia (1862) and Atlanta, Georgia (1864). Following the war, letters are written from Paris (1866-67) while he was in exile. The correspondence generally discusses current events; his land holdings in South Georgia, Alabama, and Texas; people; other soldiers; and his wish to be with his wife and family.

Note The collection consists of transcripts created by E. Merton Coulter from contemporary, hand-written copies of letters and documents from 1732-1745 relating to the Trustees for Establishing the Colony of Georgia in America. The correspondence includes letters between officials and settlers in the Colony and the Trustees. Major correspondees include James Oglethorpe, Thomas Causton, Samuel Eveleigh, Thomas Christie, Elisha Dobree, John Wesley and Trustees Benjamin Martryn and Harman Verelst. The letters provide comprehensive information regarding the settlement of Georgia, especially in Savannah and Frederica; Indian trading and relations; activities of the French and Spanish; the question of slavery; Salzburger and Moravian settlers; and religious matters.

The collection consists of the papers of Wymberley Wormsloe De Renne and the members of his family, especially Mrs. De Renne and their son Kentwyn. Materials that cover all family members include over seventy years of family correspondence and general materials such as clippings, accounts, invitations, and notebooks. Mrs. De Renne's materials are mainly administraive in nature and reflect her interests and can be found among the series for the Association of Georgia Artists and the Garden Club of Georgia. Kentwyn De Renne's materials include correspondence from the 1940s-1950s and miscellaneous materials. A large amount of material can be found in the financial materials section which has not described beyond year spans. Additionally there is a series for Inigo De Renne, and a small amount of images and miscellaneous relating to the family's activities.

The collection consists of three rolls of teletype news from the Associated Press dated May 7, 1945. The first story, K 68, was datelined Washington and begins... "President Truman was conferring with aides in the executive offices today as news was flashed to the world from Reims of the unconditional surrender of German arms." The last story, K 137, is an advance to be released the following day of King George's message of congratulations to General Eisenhower. In between are feature stories, chronologies of the war, cotton futures, and interviews. Preservation photocopies are included in the collection.
