The collection consists of two account books for the Athens Bobbin Mill and its predecessor the Athens Bobbin Works from November 1867 to December 1877 and April 1887 to December 1891. Volume one contains entries for customer or firm and includes the name, date, items purchased or ordered, and price. Additional entries pertain to wages paid employees and list name, number of days worked, and, in some cases, the amount paid. The first ledger also includes entries for letters received, answered, or sent and include the person's or firm's name, date, and address. Volume two includes entries recording employees, number of days worked, and taxes, charges for hauling services including name, amount, and size; and orders from customers or firms containing the name, date, items purchased or ordered, and price.

A volume of pasted clippings on Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, and national history. It includes some of the sketches of Athens, 1865-1875, which were printed in the local paper by A. L. Hill, who later published them as Annals of Athens. There are other articles, some by George G. Smith on early Georgia history, much about the Revolution and national history, includes a list of prisoners kept in Fort at St. Augustine by British in 1780, rolls of soldiers, 1775, from South Carolina, and some articles concerning early Baptists.

The letter concerns the purchase of 250 horse artillery sabre belts, 250 holsters and 150 horse artillery sabres. It also contains personal mention of Mrs. Campbell and her small child who are visiting with the Browns, relaying her messages to her husband.

The collection consists of the papers of the Baber, Blackshear, and Baber-Blackshear families from 1796-1939 and includes correspondence, journals, ledgers, news clippings, invitations, programs, speeches, and newspapers. The early part of the collection relates to Dr. Ambrose Baber and contains information on the 1802 William Hunter-David Mitchell duel (Savannah, Ga.); Baber's term as Charge'd Affaires to Sardinia, including correspondence from John MacPherson Berrien (1842-1844); and the establishment of the Montpelier Institute in Monroe County, Georgia. The bulk of the collection falls after 1846. It contains correspondence and journals of George Francis Burleigh Baber during his naval service on the John Adams, Germantown, Dale, and Porpoise. Also included is Civil War correspondence consisting of letters from Joseph William Blackshear of Jackson's Artillery from Camp Brown, St. Simons Island, Georgia, as well as George Dunbar Sweet Smith, who served in South Carolina and Virginia. The remainder of the collection consists of personal correspondence between Marion and William Blackshear; their children Ella, Paul, Birdie, and Minnie Baber-Blackshear; relatives; and friends.

One volume of morning reports of the 1st Georgia Militia Regiment of the Confederate States of America Army, commanded by Colonel Edward M. Galt, from February 25 - December 8, 1863. The inside cover lists the officers in the unit. Beginning entries place company in Savannah, Georgia then later in Etowah, Camp Foster and give the troops strength. Written on the front of the volume is the inscription "This book was captured at the Battle of Jonesboro, Ga. Augt. 31st, 1864. We made the Rebels Dust."

The collection consists of an account book, kept by Captain Thomas Cole, from August 1777 - March 1778. The book concerns the time between he fought in the Battle of Red Bank (Fort Mercer), NJ in October 1777 and the Battle of Rhode Island in August 1778. The volume gives a detailed account of supplies for Continental soldiers first at Peeks Kill, New York then Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. Entries include information on wages paid as well as guns, bayonets, cartridge boxes, blankets, and clothing issued to soldiers.

The collection consists of one letter from Pleasant Stovall in Athens, Georgia addressed to his son Lt. B. A. Stovall in Chattanooga, Tennessee. In the letter Pleasant replies to an earlier letter from the Lieutentant regarding investments including Georgia Railroad and Union Bank stock, and discusses the future value of Confederate money and disposition of Confederate property. He also writes about a family visit and the health of various family members, and makes general comments about the War.

A typescript of an English translation of "The Beginning of the Salzburger Settlement Ebenezer in Georgia." It was translated from German documents in the possession of the Georgia Salzburger Society, forwarded to them from Germany at the time of the Salzburger Bicentennial Celebration in Prussia. The facts contained herein were gathered largely from the diaries of Boltzius, Gronau, and others, published contemporaneously by Samuel Urlsperger, pastor of St. Ann's Church, Augsburg. The translation from German here presented was prepared by FERA (WPA) workers on a project under the direction of the Savannah Historical Research Association. Dated 14 September 1937, the typescript has the signature of Pearl R. Gnann, historian of the Ebenezer community.

The collection consists of materials related to Studies in Southeastern Indian Languages (Athens : University of Georgia Press, 1975), including a proof copy, typescripts, notes, and other material relating to researches on various topics, development of the printed book, various drafts of the essays included, some relevant correspondence, and production notes. Studies in Southeastern Indian languages is the outgrowth of a series of symposia on the subject in the early 1970s. James M. Crawford of the University of Georgia headed the efforts to produce this volume of essays and the task was completed under his editorship.

The collection consists of an autograph manuscript copy of Dan Emmett's song "Dixie land," which was written on 22 February 1899 at Conshocton, Ohio. The recto comprises voice and chorus for the minstrel arrangement while the verso lists the lyrics for five stanzas. This copy has words only; there is no musical notation. (21 1/2 X 26 1/2 cm.) Accompanying the sheet is the quill pen used to make the copy. In addition, the collection contains clippings, off-prints, brochures, and photocopies of other materials relating to Emmett and his famous work. There is also an early recording of "Dixie" by Mabel Garrison and the Victor Male Quartet for Victoria Records.

The collection consists of one volume containing newspaper clippings and typescript. The book is seventy-seven pages long, though most are blank and pages 16-24 are missing. Several newspapers printed articles, contemplating war figures, at the war's end. The volume has several of these, including ones entitled "Resources of South in War: Comparative Strengths of the Belligerents," "The Men Who Fought for the South in 1861-1865," and "Relative Numbers." Other typed lists show the analysis more clearly. One in particular titled "Strength of the Confederate Army (At the close of the War)" details those surrendered, killed, and wounded. Slight comparisons with the Union are made. These were made in the early years after the war before reconciliation and Reconstruction.
