Alternate title: Plan representing the form of setling the districts, or county divisions in the Margravate of Azilia; Alternate
title: Margravate of Azilia; Alternate title: Azilia; From: Sir Robert Montgomery, A discourse concerning the design'd establishment
of a new colony to the South of Carolina. London, 1717.; In 1717 Montgomery secured from the proprietors of Carolina a grant
of all lands between the rivers Altamaha and Savannah, to be erected into a distinct province. To this he gave the name of
Margravate of Azilia; no colonists were sent out, however, and at the end of three years the grant became void by its own
limitations.; DeRenne, 6.; The first effort to establish an English colony south of the Savannah River occurred in 1717 when
the Carolina Proprietors granted to Sir Robert Montgomery the land between the Savannah and Altamaha rivers to create a separate
colony. Within this land grant, Montgomery proposed to create the Margravate of Azilia. A "margravate" was a German military
colony, while "Azilia" was fanciful name of unknown origin; Publication: [London : s.n.]
