Whiteside regarding war news from newspapers, and opinions of General Johnston and General Hood. The collection also includes a poem written by E.A. Whiteside to her husband, and the obituary of Lieutenant B.B. McCowen.

The collection consists of a typed manuscript written by Raymond R. Chaffin in 1993 of his memories of World War II. Chaffin states, "This is written only for my children and grand-children, at their request." Chaffin includes some photocopied pages at the beginning and end that include his discharge papers, a roster of his company, a list of the company's medal recipients, a citation to award of his Silver Star, a list of the company's dead and wounded in action, a map of Europe, and a photograph of Utah Beach after D-Day.
