The collection consists of letters between Dr. E. J. Eldridge and his wife, Emma, while he served as a surgeon with the 16th Georgia Infantry Regiment and later with Cobb's Legion from 1861-1865. His letters tell of his duties and they often give descriptions of battles, including Fredericksburg in Virginia, and the Atlanta Campaign (1864). Emma's letters discuss family and political issues.

Entries include information on slave values, outlays for crops and household supplies, tax returns for Richmond and Burke counties, financial reports on building the McBean canal, and cotton sales.

A document dated 1860 January 12 in Warren County, Georgia. It lists the property in the estate of William Stone, deceased. The following minor children of William Stone received joint property shares relating to 38 enslaved people, and also received the following sums of money: Cordelia A. - $717.51; Cassanda M. - $718.34; Ellafara B. - $1642.85; William J. - $1999.91; Martha B. - $823.86. The enslaved people are listed by name and age and include Amos, 22; Ebbin, 25; Jefferson, 17; John, 1; Saphronia, 12; Charity, 3; and Antinett, 8. The administrators of the estate were Isaac Harris and Catharine Stone. The document is signed (with "X") by Catharine Stone.

The collection consists of a list of the sale of the effects of the late Mr. G. Dorsey, by his administratix Eliza Dorsey, and administrators, David Stewart and William Moore. The list gives buyer's names, articles bought and price. Instructions for the auction state that "minors, servants and slaves who may bid not to be noticed by the crier." Amounts under one dollar and thirty-three cents to be cash. Purchases over this amount to be allowed credit for 6 months. Total estate amounted to $228.10. Mr Dorsey may have been a blacksmith, for the most expensive item sold was: "1 pair Smith's bellows, and anvil and sledge - $40.00," also a quantity of old iron, wagon wheels, tongues, etc. were sold.
