The collection consists of records of the Lucy Cobb Institute of Athens, Georgia from 1857-1931. Records include a record book containing stock accounts, minutes of the Trustees of the Lucy Cobb Institute, cash accounts, and the articles of agreement for forming a joint stock company to operate a select female high school in Athens. Loose material in the collection includes legal documents, financial records, correspondence, and minutes.

A photograph of David Earnest's homeplace in East Tennessee is also included.

This collection contains a ledger with a handwritten copy of 19th Century court records for Athens, Georgia. The records were copied by Melba Bedgood in 1959. The first section is labeled Book A: Marriage Records for 1805-1814. The second section contains Land Court records for headrights 1803-1833. An index of names is included in the front of the ledger.

Collection includes three Athens, Georgia calendars from the years 1978, 1979, and 1980, as well as a copy of the Athens directory, and a 40th reunion book for Northside High School. Also included are thirteen of Chatham Murray's personal journals, two letters, photographs of Chatham Murray and signs around Athens, Georgia, a certificate of award from the Georgia Press Association given to Chatham Murray for third place in newspaper illustration/graphics, a sign-in book used for personal events, open houses, and events such as the "Pulaski Art Crawl" and two graphic design maps of popular music groups and landmarks in Athens, Georgia.

The collection consists of a card file containing names of Confederate soldiers from the Athens, Georgia area, "who were temporarily or permanently incapacitated, left ranks for any reason, or died during battles," from 1861-1865. Joseph H. Kitchens, Jr. compiled the list, and the collection contains an explanatory note from Kitchens dated February 26, 1965.

The collection consists of papers of Mary Ann Rutherford Lipscomb and the Lipscomb family from 1885-1951. Most of the collection consists of photographs of the Lipscomb family, the Lucy Cobb Institute (Athens, Ga.), and the Tallulah Falls Industrial School (Ga.). The collection also contains notes and writings of Mary Ann Lipscomb as well as correspondence including letters from George Foster Peabody (1922) to Harry Hodgson of Athens, Georgia discussing education for African Americans and the university school system in Georgia.
