Abstract Or Scope:

The collection consists of one photo album of the 49th Iowa Volunteer Infantry. The photographs depict the unit before their deployment, during their occupation in Havana, Cuba, and during travels after the war. In addition to the photographs, there are some National Tribune clippings from 1933-1935, which cover several people and events from the Spanish-American War, including General Fitzhugh Lee and his staff and the wreck of the Maine in Havana Harbor.

Abstract Or Scope:
The collection comprises the papers of S. D. Truitt (1894-1975) and family, and Ray Henry Billings (1922-1979) and family. It includes materials relating to S. D. Truitt's career as county extension agent from 1917 to 1966, his acceptance of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Superior Service Award in 1959 (including slides of the 1959 trip to Washington D.C. to accept the award) and items relating to the family's friendships with several prominent Georgia politicians. Also included is material relating to Ray Henry Billings' career as a communications engineer for the Atlanta Police Department. The collection includes awards, clippings, photographs, correspondence, color slides, and a scrapbook.

The Richter collection contains over 600 negatives from 1941-1943. Positive images have been scanned by the Photoservices Unit of the Digital Library of Georgia and are available at the beginning of the collection. The information used in the inventory consists largely of the information recorded by Richter on his storage envelopes. The envelopes were arranged alphabetically by the information recorded by Richter, but have been rearranged in five broad categories: campus groups, locations, and events; World War II at UGA; university athletics; fraternities and sororities; and individual portraits.

Richard B. Russell, Jr. Collection, Subgroup E, Series I. Photographs consists of over 4,500 unique photographs illustrating the life and career of Senator Russell. Early photographs include images of family members and scenes from Russell's childhood and span his life through 1 October 1970, when he made a military inspection tour at Key West, Florida. Of particular interest are the photos documenting the Senate Military Affairs Committee touring the European Theatre of Operation in 1945.

This series consists of photographs, primarily black and white, covering civic events Pilcher attended and various trips he made as a congressman. Because Pilcher played an important role in federal construction in his distriction, the series also includes views of the Moultrie post office and the town of Cavalry, among others. Among the some the more notable individuals appearing in the photographs are: Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, Hubert H. Humphrey, Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr., Francisco Franco, and Chiang Kai-shek.
