Scope and content:

Personal and Family papers includes Margaret Mitchell's correspondence to and from service members on the U.S.S. Atlanta, general lists of a personal nature, some school work, desk calendars and appointment books for the years of 1939-1949, mementos from Gone With the Wind, and many photographs of Mitchell throughout her life. The family papers include correspondence relating to the Mitchell and Stephens families from 1851-1910; letters written by John Stephens to his sister Mary and to Annie Fitzgerald while he served with the Commissary General in Milledgeville and Atlanta, Georgia from 1861-1863, discussing family news, problems finding supplies and equipment, prices, and inflation. Also includes materials relating to John Stephens' daughter Belle (1885-1910) who married Eugene M. Mitchell, father of Margaret Mitchell.
